As a student, I was at the last game at the Hart during the 1978-79 season. HC lost in OT or double OT with Eric "Sleepy" Floyd and Ron Perry going head to head. I also recall HC center John O'Connor missing a break away dunk during regulation. Ahh those were the days.

No shot clock, Georgetown held the ball in a tie game the last 6-7 minutes before missing to send the game into OT.
The game was played at the end of the season on an unseasonably warm and humid day (probably low 60s). This and the full house caused a lot of moisture issues w/the floor, lucky no one got injured out there.

This sad news makes you smile as you remember how much fun the old Big East was back in the 80's. Too bad HC didn't have a chance to get in on that.

Errrrrrggghhh....others here know the whole story bettah than I, but I do think GTown/Thompson gave Fr Brooks pause on the concept of HC in the BE. R.I.P. Big John...a polarizing but truly iconic figure in the rise (for bettah or worse) of college hoop in the Northeast and nationally.
