Helms, Clemson's 4th string QB, was 5 for 7 with two TD's yesterday. The 2d and 3rd string QB's were apparently injured. Perhaps things are going to work out for him at Clemson.

Second string QB, a redshirt freshman from Bridgeport CT., played the entire third quarter, didn't show much. Helms started the 4th quarter, had two TDs, and had one TD overruled on replay as the receiver hit the pylon as he was catching it. Played about 2/3rd of the fourth quarter and was replaced as QB by the punter. The true freshman QB, a ***** from CA, nowhere to be seen. As I noted in a post on the ACC contest thread, Helms, from the types of passes he threw, appears to be getting a lot of reps in practice. Having the punter play QB at the end suggests that Clemson is only three deep at QB at this juncture of the season; otherwise I think Helms would have finished the game. I think Helm's success as a walk-on freshman for the #1 team in the country reflects most favorably on BC's ability to spot talent.
