TV Ratings. No one gives a donkey's butt about the PL, HC, IL , etc. The promoters are solely interested in those teams that can garner viewership. Pitino's Iona team is a dark horse to get an invite. Maybe not but there is a bit of a buzz about Rick/Iona. PL has little media appeal. HC has intentionally lowered its emphasis on all sports which I agree with.(TBT I preferred DIV. III NESCA with Amherst, etc. Unfortunately, HC was not invited and its overtures were rejected out of hand. "Could not get past the front gate.") Instead HC is a charter member of the Colonial/PL which along with the IL is the most academically prestigious athletic conference in Div.1. HC occupies a lofty position unique among all Catholic institutions. "You are known by the company you keep." HC is competitive in football and hopefully will compete successfully in the PL in all sports. I believe that given the realities of size and academics HC has made the perfect choice. Nothing against the NESCAC schools but my preference would have the Davidson model. Very small college with great academics and solid D1 athletic conference.

I don't think many of you guys would be happy playing football in the Pioneer League. I suggest Richmond as the better role model.

I'd gladly take Pioneer League FB if it meant A10 BB.

The Fordham model...becoming an A-10 doormat?

The Fordham model...becoming an A-10 doormat? Who said anything about being a doormat. Model, not the results and fwiw, I think HC would have been competitive in the A 10 for the last 37 years. We were invited to join in either '82 or '83. I am using the past tense in my comments because it is all water over the dam and I am probably in the winter of my years. Having said that I still root like hell for the Crusaders in spite of my dislike for the PL.

The Fordham model...becoming an A-10 doormat? Fordham is in the Big Apple. Why can't they attract a sharp AD and sharp coaches? If a coach/AD on the way up makes a splash in the media capital of the world isn't that better for their career than having success in some second tier city like Spokane?

No.
When is the last time you read the Post or Daily News sports section or listened to WFAN or WEPN?
Fordham athletics get next to zero ink and attention in NYC. Gonzaga is the only game in town in Spokane and gets much ink.
PL Football and worst BB squad in the A10 isn't the recipe for media attention.

Rose Hill Gym is their Achilles heel. Difficult to recruit quality athletes when overall facilities are substandard in comparison to other schools in the A10. Even their recent renovation to Rose Hill Gym is the proverbial lipstick on .... The same was becoming increasingly apparent to HC prior to the recent renovation. Fordham’s desperately needs a new arena, practice gym, film room, sports medicine and weight room, and ancillary support facilities in order to compete successfully.

Post, Daily News, WFAN, WEPN: Never unless a clip is linked from my internet home page or something. I do assume Pitino will crack the NY sports media at Iona.

But they also have the financial capital of the world to fundraise in for a new facility.

Fordham missed the boat when they did not hire Joe Moglia as their football coach. He could have brought the resources of TD Ameritrade to help in the fundraising for facilities.

Nicer than Draddy (Manhattan) -- thats about all I can say.

Looks like a nice suburban campus. As was said, nice but nothing special. Standing along that hillside (and it was franking) waiting to get in for tickets was not a thrill.

A check of the Google Machine shows that Iona's Hynes Athletics Center gym was renovated prior to last season. The court was rotated 90 degrees, which allowed bleachers to be added on the ends, so the court now has seating on all 4 sides. Improved the look some and increased seating from the last renovation (1998) but still less than the 3000 capacity listed when the place first opened in 1974. The Iona site has a description of the renovation - including changes to the ticket window and concession area to come "at a later date." icgaels.com/facilities/hynes-athletics-center/14

It is inconceivable that a school could renovate an athletic center and be left with inadequate concessions

Last time I was there with son & grandson about 5 years ago was to see a Fairfield game

Yes, backless bleachers almost entirely. Which is fine...if you still have a back.
