Good point. I was able to follow HC fairly closely through Potter, Vicens, Perry and then got busy before having the chance to be a season ticket holder for most of the Willard and Brown years so I am a little fuzzy about the in between years. However, I do remember attending a game during the non-scholarship era and noting the difference from the teams that played in the Colonial Classics at Boston Garden and won against the best teams in New England. It put Bill in a terrible position while still trying to establish an identity as a coach. The talent just wasn't there for the most part. He was able to identify and recruit some players (Juan Pegues, Jared Curry, Ryan Serravalle, Pat Whearty, and a couple others) that were the backbone of RW's successful 01 and 02 champions....so not all went poorly. Ryan and Pat were members of that first class to return to scholarships

Ryan and Pat were members of that first class to return to scholarships And Dekker McKeever from California whose injuries kept him from from playing. I believe he had a chronic foot issue perhaps similar to what happened to another Californian who starred at UCLA and later in the NBA.
