Today Coach Nelson took part in a webinar with season ticket holders. A few points he mentioned...
Gerald Gates is not yet eligible to play.. Louth Coulabaly is not on campus, Coach hopes he will be on campus in January and will then be eligible. For that to happen, HC must have in person classes on campus. Coach hopes to play 9 - 10 players a game in an uptempo pressure style. He likes what he has seen from the team so far, loves the way they compete.. The team will play primarily M2M, but will utilize different zones, especially playing teams so many times this season..
Anybody else have any recollections? I think there were about 30 season ticket holders on the zoom call today...

I participated. but I do not remember his saying that Gates was not eligible. Could it be that they have not yet gotten official word on his eligibility?

Pleased with efforts of the staff to evaluate the 3 signed recruits .. still has a schollie but holding until he sees if an other roster need may present itself.

I'm sure he said "Not eligible yet", This was early in the question section, when he also said everybody was health and there have been zero positive Covid tests.. I believe he will become eligible soon, there is a NCAA meeting to be held on December 14th and the transfer eligible topic is sure to be discussed. Seems to me many transfers are getting h their eligibilty ok'd just before their first game...Joe Pridgeon is one, the kid at BC is another, so I hope Gates will get the ok soon.

It was much more of a feel good call about both programs. I was hoping we would get to DiMarz question about streaming a practice.unfortunately I didn't think they gave us much other than letting us know the program is alive and in waiting.
That said McGarity was engaging and answered the questions, not so much with Brett who offered little new from last July other than he really liked this group and what DiMarz offered--given Covid and no games that info might be limited? The players were well prepared to answer questions and I thought both Ryan and Avery did a great job!

I saw that a number of the 27 participants (I looked) were Crossporters and I usually take poor notes but here's what I thought he said:
* I'm the one who asked about the "availability" of the roster and his initial response was they were all "available" but then hedged. Someone asked about Gates' status in the Blossom thread and that's why I asked the question. Again, I may have misunderstood Brett but thought he said Gates will be playing but Louth isn't in the country yet, as Marcus said yesterday. But expect him on campus in early January and will have to see what shape he's in and how quickly he can get up to speed. * Brett said he is impressed with the athleticism and speed on the roster and agree with prior poster that primary defense will be M2M but because they will be playing teams multiple times, they will have to mix that up or the opponents will figure out how to beat that. * Brett said that they still have one more scholarship but he seemed ambivalent whether he would use it. (I count 13 on the current roster). * Ryan Wade was on the call as was Avery LaBarbera for the ladies and while they didn't say anything, that implied to me that they will be the captains. They both answered some questions mostly about team attitude, working hard, staying focused, looking forward to competing, team cohesion and that sort of thing. Ryan did say that he felt BU, Colgate, even Army - all in our "pod" -were likely to be the favorites to win the league. * No positive covid tests on either team (YAY!) * Brett, as expected, ducked my question on how many wins would he consider to be a successful season. Usual platitudes about improving from game to game and just playing actual games would be success.

A soph as captain when there are two returning senior starters ??

The webcast/zoom call might have conflicted with class schedules for Austin or Matt? Or
It might be as suggested
Availability is not bad but we have a way to go for more transparency until the death of Covid

A soph as captain when there are two returning senior starters ?? I think 70's assumption is a it bit of a leap. Ryan Wade might have been there because Faw and Butler were in class. Maybe it was a reward for a great week in practice. Could be lots of reasons. If Wade is a captain, I think he would have to be a tri-captain. I hope he's not. Next year fine, but it would have to be something extraordinary to have a soph captain. Not unprecedented, but I do not anticipate having a soph captain while senior(s) aren't . Semi on topic, but I would be stunned if last year's co-captain Butler was not a repeat captain

Not saying Wade is a captain, just a possibility. We have had a shockingly young captain in the past, right? And if he was made a captain - admittedly a VERY outside chance, that would not in any way imply Butler not being a captain too. Wade's father is a basketball coach, right, and presumably Ryan has a high BB IQ. Might Nelson like the idea of a younger but one of the few returnees also be a captain and who will be around (hopefully no transfer portal for him!) and lead the team through what will obviously be a multi-year program rebuild?

Did HCBN mention anything about culture? I hope so. I have picked that word for my drinking game when I watch the replay.

Pleased with efforts of the staff to evaluate the 3 signed recruits .. still has a schollie but holding until he sees if an other roster need may present itself. I would hold that schollie for someone in the Class of 2026 because that class will be tiny compared to the Class of 2025. Maybe I should say could be tiny since we don't know how many of the Class of 2025, currently 6, will chose to spend their 5th year here. Imagine the very unlikely event they all did and the Class of 2025 had 9 grads in it. (those 6 plus the 3 incoming recruits next fall.) If you use the schollie for next fall's incoming class, you have the possibility, unlikely but still a possibility, of 10 players graduating in May of 2025. Of course if a 3* recruit comes along, I'd say go for it.

Both parties being players and coaching staff 2) There would have to be an academic reason to stay a 5th year, Specifically adding a double major or a minor that necessitated that 5th year Nothing new there, however I would add it's easier to need that 5th year if you add the double major late in your career. For a freshman, there should be ample time to meet the requirements of both disciplines plus the distribution requirements. A 2nd semester junior might not have enough time left to squeeze in sufficient courses in a newly added discipline in 3 semesters

* Brett said that they still have one more scholarship but he seemed ambivalent whether he would use it. (I count 13 on the current roster). There are 13 players on the roster. However DJ Hart is a walk on so there are only 12 scholarships As I double checked the roster to make sure I didn't forget someone, I have determined that barbershops in CT are still closed for COVID. Or at least based on his picture, Joey Reilly has maintained social distance from his barber
