Other than a manager, what non roster student would be Tier 1? No one that I can immediately think of, but I also don't know whether there might be students working in strength and conditioning, e.g., cleaning equipment, etc.

It is a kick in the gut to Matt and Austin..I'm sure they will remember their last games at HC as big wins, that may temper the ending..It would be nice if Crossporters spent a minute and sent each of them a note congratulating them on their careers at HC...Just might take the edge off the ending.. On the positive side, the team ended the season with 2 solid wins in the forefront of their minds! I think they should get honored at a senior day ceremony next year when fans are back! They both earned it.

(Or getting on with their post basketball lives if that's what they want to do.)

Disappointed for the HC players, coaches, students, alums and fans that HC will not be able to participate in the tournament. Would have liked to have seen how we would have fared vs. Loyola (and Navy if we got past Loyola). In any case, as RGS pointed out, this is the first season since ‘58-‘59 that we ended the year with two wins and the first time since ‘72-‘73 that we ended with a win. Nature of the game in the 21st century. Basically everybody goes to a conference tournament. Under normal circumstances, the only way to end the season with a win is to win the NCAA,NIT, or one of those minor extras like HC played in 2014 As a witness to the 119-117 win over URI in 1972-3; I can tell you that there wasn't much celebrating/satisfaction save for maybe 30 seconds after that win.

The PL gives us something to play for at the end of every regular season now...except for right now of course.

That was something I wish we had been able to do back in the mid-60s when we had some good teams and ended the year with nowhere to go.

In those days our end of season tournament consisted of games against our New England rivals BC and PC. Our record in those late season games 3-11 vs BC and 1-6 vs PC, never beat either team in Worcester. We had chances to extend our season in those years but couldn't win crucial games. Maybe if there was an end of season tournament could've caught lightning in a bottle but not likely given our record against those teams in big spots.

That sums it up pretty well. It was frustrating. A post-season tournament would have been a much better end to the season...regardless of the outcome. (...and Rich Murphy would surely have hit the 1000 point mark.)

I didn’t check the archives but I seem to remember the Johnnies being a late season nemesis in addition to BC and PC.

Yes St John's was another of our late season problems but limited to NE teams as I assumed RGS was referring to the type of regional tourney we had in the mid to late 70's.

It seems one brief shining moment. Fun times. HC was the only team to make the NE field before the Big East came along in 1980 and took BC, PC and UConn.

The ECAC New England tourney? 1975-79, then it got watered down tremendously when BC, PC and UConn exited.
Winners were BC, UConn, HC (PC went as at At Large), URI (PC at large again), UConn...in that order.
PC never won that tournament; which I didn't realize until just now.

They both earned it. To piggyback off this great idea, maybe they could do something 2 years from now (now that we know AB is looking to play elsewhere next year). Doesn't even have to be on Senior Day. Most of his current teammates should (hopefully) still be around, and if the team is doing as well as we are hoping they will, could probably get a good crowd that AB and MF deserve.

Remember, they did have their senior day this season with their teammates therefor. them. We can certainly have a day to honor them and the leadership they provided at a critical time, but (and it is just one person's opinion) I don't think it should be called a "senior day."

It would be nice to do something for them, however, it appears Austin will be playing hoops somewhere and Matt also most likely...Tough to get a date when both could be at a home game....
