The 2021 Fall Schedule is available on the HC website. The Sept. 11 open date is now filled with a home game vs. Merrimack.

Probably a good call....early OOC is fairly daunting: at UConn, at Yale and at Monmouth...good to have a home, winnable game early on next fall.

Anyone know if Harvard is definitely Homecoming? Trying to put together a HC weekend with far-flung friends post-covid. Thanks.

Merrimack game should be a wild game if it is the ring of honor game. Anybody remember OT vs Yale? The Fumble vs UNH?

Here is the Holy Cross Football list of graduating players:
In addition, QB Matt Considine has entered the Transfer Portal.
From this, I believe that the following seniors will be returning and will be on the 2021 roster:
WR Tenio Ayeni OL John Brekke DB Grant Holloman DL Noah Johnson OL Mike Pizziketti DL Benton Whitley

So technically we have 13 (12 grads + Considine) roster spots to fill. That of course does not count players who decline to play next year. Could be one of the smallest number of freshmen in quite some time

There were 14 of them that signed in December and a few more later (I'm too lazy too look up how many more there were). What's in play here is how many they can sign who are entering in fall of 2022.

If that is what the players and coaches want, I can certainly back their choice to play two FBS games. I don't believe they would want to schedule two blow-outs, but as HC improves, more teams become legit opponents that only a few years ago would have meant disaster on our schedule. (Since all of the Patriot League is Division 1, I think FBS is what you meant. Is that correct?)

Can we interpret any of Coach Chesney's comments to tell if he would prefer one or two FBS games?

He came in like a lion and went out like a lamb. But like all the players and coaches he contributed to two championships because the game gets won all week in practice as much as on Saturday.

/\ As I recall several of us repeatedly pointed out at the time that he had been a lightly recruited non-schollie walk-on who essentially never played at Wake Forest so the excitement of a few very excited posters was misplaced.
It wasn’t at all like when Tim Galloway (a schollie player from Ohio State) who played a bit there and Gil Fenerty (a schollie from LSU) who played a bit there showed up under Rick Carter. Of course they’d dominate (and they did).
We should have a pipeline with BC so that buried schollie kid could consider transferring nearby. (And we should have a regular redshirt system.) Maybe the ACC to PL is too much of a drop in a schollie kid’s eyes (thinking Matt Valecce, for example) so maybe get a relationship going with a non P-5 FBS team.

IIRC, Considine in 2019 had a higher QB rating than CD. I considered him a better passer than CD, less prone to miscues.

Has HC arrived at a place where we can get someone like Merrimack on the schedule without agreeing to a return road game ? I hope so but I'm afraid the answer is not what I want to hear

I hope so but I'm afraid the answer is not what I want to hear I wouldn't bet on anything that occurs scheduling-wise in the next couple years indicates anything in terms of a trend. There is going to be a lot of short-term fixes, so to speak, to compensate for the loss of the 2020 season.

Well, FBS non conference games are scheduled in some cases 10 years in advance so the back to back championships has nothing to do with it. The penalty to back out of a FBS game for Holy Cross is a non starter anyways.

I hope so but I'm afraid the answer is not what I want to hear HC and Merrimack have a multi-sport agreement for several of the programs. FB game vs Merrimack is not a one-off, it's part of the agreement that had Merrimack bring their hockey program to HC's campus for example, as well as several other games in different sports. And to answer another question that was floated in this thread - Ches would prefer ZERO 1A games. He does like them at all, but realizes the players and HC bean counters do.
