The FB and hockey games downtown, in city owned facilities that area sports fans are used to going to are all to the good imo. They help make HC more a part of the area sports landscape. People may have a pre-determined conception of the level of play of the PL and AHA and be presently surprised that these games are equally enjoyable as minor league sports if they attend in person in facilities they associate with a fun night out.

Anyone's guess as to what the break even point is - that is, how many over the Hart Center's capacity have to attend these games to achieve the same or better financial result? My guess is around 3,000 because the Hart Center is so small. I think the challenge is that we can’t get anyone decent to come to the Hart Center. If we want to get a home game against a good team that casual fans want to see HC play, we have to play at the DCU and then it’s still probably a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 deal. Providence and UMass both made the Frozen Four in 2019 while playing at Holy Cross that season. But I guess noone good plays at HC.

Those two local yokel schools? How can they be national champions coming from our area? Let's keep playing them and getting better.

Long article in the Globe on the Icebreaker tournament. More ink than the paper will likely devote to HC football.

Just checked in at the end of OT in the first game. Arena is empty. I suppose that the Sox playing has hurt attendance but still…..

Official Attendance for Friday: 1627 /photo/1 Three of the best local area hockey schools over the last 10 years and Holy Cross beat Bentley vs Ohio State by a total of 42 people at the gate!

Official Attendance for Friday: 1627 /photo/1 Thus justifying the move from the Hart Center, which only holds 1,500, right? Geesh!

Brian, not really following your train of thought here other than it is an obvious dig at Holy Cross. I am not a hockey fan since leaving Long Island and the Islanders. I always hope Holy Cross teams, even tennis and field hockey, win.
That said, there are 3 other teams in the "tournament" and if I recall, one purchased a ticket to see all 4 teams play and the attendance in many of these kinds of things is a cumulative total for both games (i.e. go to 1st, 2nd or both games it all counts as one attendance). So, if the attendance is lousy, and indeed that looks like a poor number, that's not just on Holy Cross but the other 3 schools as well. Might be a reflection on Worcester college hockey fans as much as on Holy Cross.

College Hockey season is WAY too long.
No way should it start before the NHL.

^ ? Frozen Four ends 3 months before Stanley Cup finals do. You are right. The more apt comparison is to college hoops which are still a month away. Your average sports fan is more interested in college and pro football and the baseball playoffs.

Seems like the IceBreaker made a bad decision having HC host this...next week will be sold out in Duluth.

Again. Is Holy Cross the issue or Worcester?
Or, forgive me, is it hockey? At least college hockey? I know there are rabid Bruins fans but, really, how popular is hockey in the US?

It appears HC's first goal of the year has invigorated the Crusaders as the announcers are saying they are playing better. HC survives two consecutive power plays.
