5-1 final. In other news, former league-mate UConn beat #10 BU 5-1. Not really surprising as UConn finished in fourth place in Hockey East in 2020-2021 and in 2019-2020 finished ahead of BU in Hockey East.

Good sign that frosh goalie Thomas Gale entered the game early after BC scored three quick goals and made 34 saves in 56 minutes while allowing only 2 goals

Again. Is Holy Cross the issue or Worcester? Or, forgive me, is it hockey? At least college hockey? I know there are rabid Bruins fans but, really, how popular is hockey in the US? Don't forget that right or wrong the pandemic is going to cut a lot of indoor crowds down considerably.

I went friday night as I took my daughter to look at HC and some other schools this weekend. HC students were off on fall break. A number of football players and some other athletes came. There were some hockey alums (but a lot of my contemporaries couldn't make it due to their own kids sports / activities). We sat with a lot of the players parents from both HC and Quinnipiac. There were a number of kids from youth hockey teams there as well. I was disappointed with the crowd, and I cannot explain why more people didn't come to watch 3 of the better teams in the country for $20 a day. Coming up from NJ (not exactly FLA Man territory), I was surprised how restrictive Worcester's COVID policies were and maybe that explains part of it.
In terms of the game, you could really notice the talent differential between Northeastern and HC watching it live and in person. I give the HC guys a lot of credit as they were completely out manned talent wise and kept it a competitive game. Two bad turnovers in the second period were the difference. The parents of a Jr on the team sat behind me made the observation that this was progress from the last couple of years. They said in the previous 2 years, HC would have completely lost their composure and the 2nd half of the game would have been a parade to the penalty box and the final score would have been 5 or 6 - 0. Saturday was pretty ugly early, but with good goaltending and more discipline, maybe the team can surprise some a little in the AHA. But until we can convince more talented recruits to come to HC, we will continue to be one of if not the worst program in Division 1.

I was at Providence at AIC on Saturday night and security guards were yelling at people to pull their masks up in the MassMutual. The policies in New England are much stricter than elsewhere.

How restrictive are Worcester's policies? I expect the same as HC. In NYC, where I am right now, proof of vaccination and photo ID required in most places

And it was enforced pretty aggressively at the DCU Center, a restaurant I went to, the hotel I stayed at and we couldn’t even check out Kimball. My wife and daughters went to a concert at MSG last week, so while they brought their vaccine card and ID, it was barely checked. Barely anyone of the 20,000 people at the concert were masked.

Kimball is by far the strictest place on campus. Everywhere else is fairly relaxed. However the school is testing much more than many pier institutions.

Yup, we were able to go inside the Swords academic complex, Dinand, Hogan, Healy dorm and the Jo. Having done a lot of college tours over the last couple of years, it is too bad that HC can’t show off Kimball. It is a great dining facility relative to peer schools.

They should make it available for viewing between meal times because they aren't making classic halls like that anymore.

Having done a lot of college tours over the last couple of years, it is too bad that HC can’t show off Kimball. It is a great dining facility relative to peer schools. At least you were able to visit a least five buildings on the tour. In 1999, we were on an admissions tour at Princeton. Other than sitting in the admissions building at the start, the tour consisted of walking around campus, with access to only two buildings on campus, Old Nassau and the Firestone Chapel. Once the tour was over, which was very disappointing, we walked by the Firestone Library, and wanted to see their collections. At the entrance we were met by an abrupt guard who denied us entry, we explained that we had just finished the admissions tour and wanted to look around the facility. He was unbending, and told us we had to go back to the admissions office to get a pass to get in. We then decided to just drop the issue and leave, without following up on the admissions process. Just was not a friendly environment. Several weeks later, in 1999, we were at Dartmouth on a Sunday afternoon, visiting their campus. We had access to several libraries, Baker and at Tuck, including the rare book collections, without anyone batting an eye. Times have changed, in the last 22 years and security is stricter now than then, with access very limited. From looking at the Hogan Courtyard Webcam, it is interesting to see a group of perspective students and their parents on the tour of the campus. Just wish I was able to hear their reactions.

"Ooh and Ahh" were the comments I picked up from lip-reading.🙂
HC needs to roll out a plusher welcome carpet then Princeton and I'm sure they do. Interesting about Dartmouth. They aren't that full of themselves up they-uh in New Hampshuh.

AIC hosted UMass Amherst on Friday and got 1306.
The other icebreaker got 5940 in Duluth for an arena that holds 6,726 for hockey.

To add an understanding of the 1306 scattered around the Mass Mutual Center, it is a local game for both Western Mass. teams in a sport each school is riding high in, UMass as national champions and AIC as repeat D-1 league champions for a D-2 school. I would put that disappointing turnout in the same class as the disappointing turnout at the DCU Center. Also, college hockey is super big in Minnesota - especially in the Iron Range without too many other nearby sports like we have with the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins seasons close to overlapping.
