The PL teams have their work cut out for them with 35 out-of-conference games (we are not including the post season here) and likely only a half dozen where the PL squad will be favored. Here's how PL teams have done in OOC games in the past half dozen years, skipping the shortened Spring 2021 season
2014= 17-21 2015= 16-19 2016= 14-20 2017= 8-27 2018= 7-26 2019= 10-28
Here's the lineup for this season's OOC games
Lafayette @ Air Force @ Wm & Mary vs U New Hampshire vs U Pennsylvania @ Harvard
Lehigh vs Villanova @ Richmond vs Princeton vs Yale @ U Pennsylvania
Colgate @ boston college vs Stony Brook vs Wm & Mary @ Brown @ Cornell
Holy Cross @ Connecticut vs Merrimack @ Yale @ Monmouth vs Harvard
Fordham @ Nebraska vs Monmouth @ Florida Atlantic @ Stony Brook vs Wagner
Georgetown vs Marist @ Delaware State vs Harvard @ Columbia @ Morgan State
Bucknell @ Sacred Heart @ Villanova vs U Pennsylvania vs. Cornell @ Army
So, your challenge is to pick the total number of OOC wins for the 7 PL teams combined. You can count the wins by team if you want to do so, but that is not a requirement. Good luck as we all compete for bragging rights.

I'll go with 11 (with HC having more wins than any other PL team).

I hope PL teams do well. I have a bad feeling some of these teams are in way over their head. It just hurts the good PL teams because the conference gets rated at the bottom.

Only one PL school (Lehigh) even plays a majority of its non-conference games at home. That's the first problem.

Well, you have to figure that the FBS games will always be played on the road (thank you for the check). When you take those 5 games away, the remaining games are 15 home and 15 away.....

Fordham’s first three games are incredibly tough (Nebraska, Monmouth, Florida Atlantic). Ouch! If they are healthy their 4th game is a possible win (Stony Brook is down this year IMHO).
I'll guess 8 PL OOC victories this season.

I voted 9-10. I’ll go with an overall record of 10-25. 3 OOC wins by one PL team is the most. Either HC or G’Town (or both)
We also sort of got gipped a bit because preseason, I had G’Town beating 2 of 3 (Marist, Delaware State and Morgan State) Obviously, Marist came cancelled.

Why does home and away have to be the case? Why couldn't a school simply say they'll play no more than one road game in the non-conference schedule? Some larger programs does this frequently and the home field advantage pays off in playoff/bowl consideration. Granted, it reduces the number of available opponents--probably a few more Merrimacks and a few less Delawares on future schedules. But if you've got PL teams facing 1-4 records heading into league play, there is no path to an at-large bid, and little room for a winning record overall.

I'm guessing no PL team is going to get an at-large bid with OOC wins only over the likes of Marist, Howard, LIU, & Morgan State

If Holy Cross, for example, has a team deserving of an at-large bid, we should go at least 3-2 OOC. Factor in a loss to Fordham and that's 8-3 which would have us on the far bubble in a field of 24 depending on the records of the teams we beat. Going 4-1 against a bottom-of-the-barrel FCS schedule and then going 5-1 in the PL isn't getting anyone into the playoffs.

I would suggest HC wins some games before we start debating whether or not those wins will get us into an at-large bid for the playoffs...or, better yet, simply win the PL so none of this would matter.

We can get home and away series with the Ivies and should seek them with regional CAA teams also. UMass should be a home and away series while they are flailing in FBS and continue when they inevitably fall back to earth in FCS. Worcester is like a home game for them. They have played home basketball games at the DCU. I attended one vs South Carolina. It was the first time I ever saw a "UMass Worcester" banner, which was hanging from the balcony in the enthusiastic UMass Medical School section. You would think Maine would like to get below the tree line every other year.🙂

I think our game with Fordham will be a battle royal
Take 3 offensive QB plays away last spring and not sure we win
I think they are the better offensive team at this point or at least until we prove we can move the ball through the air
Not popular i am sure but bet the coaching staff is thinking about it

I bet the coaches are concentrating on UConn and not giving much thought to Fordham at this point in time.

72, my post above might have been a bit flippant but seriously, there are too many games and too many variables between now and the Fordham game for the coaches to be giving this more than the most cursory thought. As we know, the Ram QB is probably the best in the league and he makes their offense go. Not at all wishing this on him but football being a contact sport, who knows if he doesn't get injured between now and then? That'd change the whole dynamic of our game with them.
Looking too far down the road and looking past other teams would be a recipe for disaster.

The idea of saying that if scoring plays were taken out, HC would have lost m makes bo sense unless HC Turned the ball over on every one of those plays. What would have stopped HC from. scoring on a later play? Heck, if we take away all of HC scoring plays, we would not have won a single game.

Agree with what you are saying-- but my point is we put in an unknown quantity against the opponent- who had little or no information on what he might do and they got burned. He made great plays and of course that is part of the game. Had we stayed with what appeared to be the offensive game plan, and that means without Sluka, I am not sure we would have won by that margin or won the game. Not sure how many more times that will happen in the months ahead.

I was asked a different question as we did the guessing / predictions of the PL OOC schedule that included the Fordham and HC games vs Monmouth and what does that might mean for the HC-Fordham game.

Not sure if anyone saw this but Bucknell Head Coach on PL Media Day saying Fordham is the class of the league.
He could end up being right - time will tell - but if that’s not bulletin board material this season I don’t know what is.

It appears that the coach is looking ahead the season finale in Lewisburg to make his season.
