Not sure if this beatdown is good or bad for us....either way, we should probably play these guys pretty evenly.

I’ll never understand why UConn went back to Randy Edsall after firing Diaco. Every time I see Edsall on TV he looks like a man in distress, fully aware that the program is a dumpster fire. On the other hand he makes 1 million a year.

One play that stood out for me was when a Fresno receiver caught a pass and was hit immediately by 2 UConn defenders. He popped up with the ball and the 2 defenders went down and needed helpto get up and off the field.

Not sure if this beatdown is good or bad for us....either way, we should probably play these guys pretty evenly. I thought that the worst prognosis for us (outside of a Husky win) would have been a mildly competitive game, think 38-14-ish (let's say around 17-7 at half). A game where the Huskies could get their feet under them a little bit, gain some confidence but still come into next week super hungry. This game, in theory, has been such a mismatch that I think heads will still be spinning in Storrs next week. I thought that a surprisingly close game, one in which Fresno played poorly, would have been another good prognosis for us because maybe Huskies would come in overconfident. Ridiculous IMO that this game was played during the day given the potentially dangerous heat. I guess CBS Sports needed to throw something on....would've been a much better experience for everyone to play this at night in an 8pm PT slot. I wouldn't have stayed up for that though -- tried to pretend I was young again and fought the sand-man until the 8th inning of the Yankees-A's game last night.

Thus game is a good argument for a grass field over artificial turf on a hot day like this. With grass it is not likely your shoes will "melt" as has happened in the past the this field. It now looks as though Fresno can choose the score (whatever number they want).

From Twitter -- the "UConn Blog" is putting a positive spin on things>
However, to be sure, this does not mean that next week's game will not be a tough battle and maybe even an uphill climb for a victory.

65 yards of offense for UCONN

Possibly due to the quickness of the small, speedy receiver.

65 yards of offense for UCONN I withdraw my earlier praise of the UConn O-Line. However they could still be a handful for HC in 70 degree weather.

Fresno State is obviously a lot better in all respects than we are. Expected this game to be a blowout. Still expect next week to be a toss-up.

There wasn't another coach in the country who wanted the job. That's why. I don’t think that’s true. Lots of qualified assistants would have jumped at the chance to ink a multi year deal that’s mid six figures annually. Randy Edsall’s current salary: $1,606,000.

Plus he probably has some percentage of the perks and protections Geno has. I remember reading about Geno's new contract or extension. He certainly didn't seem to give UConn a hometown discount or provide any concessions due to his advanced age.
But there is a savings for UConn/State of Connecticut to extend Geno. If they weren't paying him out of a salary account they would have to pay him a large percentage of his salary out of a pension account. The liability for Geno's pension, which will be a whopper, actually goes down while he continues working.
That benefit doesn't exist for a younger coach like Edsall. His pension liability is rising while his w-l record is falling.

Well, it's going to be interesting to see how HC (2x PL Champion) compares to an absolute dumpster fire of an FBS program.
In all honesty, next week will say a lot about the current state of the program and the Patriot League.

I don't know if UConn is traveling back tonight, but it will be a long journey back to Storrs.
IMO, the HC coaching staff learned little from this game, given UConn's inept offense and porous defense.
The local weather office reports the prevailing sky condition as "smoke". No wind to speak of, but it is a dry heat.

Actually think UCONN has potential and had a bad match up for the first game Battled agains heat and speed Not sure we offer those conditions next week in NE Unless of course are QB can make plays and attack the huskies on the perimeter in the air so our WRs can do damage

Would be nice if we can stretch the field more this year. Not sure if Sluka or Siderman or Pesansky gives us our best chance in that regard but I am sure the staff has an idea. And that we’ll see all three take some snaps this season.

Who would have thought that the NY Times National Champion UConn Huskies would get beaten so badly? Their secondary looked completely clueless out there.

Since so many receivers had no UConn defenders near them, it was hard to judge the specific play of individual Huskies.
