Can we all stipulate that no one here is changing their position on vaccines or masks based on anything that they have or are going to ever read on Crossports?

I hope that is true.

These vaccine mandates at outdoor facilities are only for optics. They do nothing. I am vaccinated. When I learn that an event has a vaccine mandate, it makes me much more comfortable to attend! I think that many people feel the same way, and as a result, overall attendance and participation in a wide variety of events is improved. This helps our economy and all of our life experience. Said not one of the 100,000 people at SEC stadiums this past weekend.

I knew that # rang a bell. Last year you doubted the projection that 100,000 people might die from Covid. Number is now over 700,000.

Apparently they follow the science. And that is a place that ordinarily falls all over itself with the gestures.

There has been zero evidence since the link below of outbreaks due to outdoor sporting events other than Italy very early on. If you're going to implement a vaccine mandate then you better check every single person. Otherwise it's nothing but optics. That's all. www.wsj.com/articles/the-soccer-match-that-kicked-off-italys-coronavirus-disaster-11585752012I believe every single person over the age of 12 was checked, although it was a pretty sloppy check

Sloppy in that they did not check the ID of people who presented physical vaccine cards which was part of the published policy

As much as I always hate to agree with Tom and I'm not sure where/when he entered, here's my experience but similar to what he posted:
As part of the Volunteer program (Class Chairs, Correspondents, and other semi-VIPs, etc.) they had a BBQ set-up on the baseball concourse. Don't think that quite qualifies as a "tailgate."
So, the normal gate where you'd enter the baseball concourse, right behind the ticket booth, was closed off and a sign to enter the baseball field directed me west of the baseball press box and closer to the baseball restrooms. There was one guy there, alone, checking vax cards and passing out the blue wrist bands. The line wasn't moving especially fast and from a distance it looked like he was doing the best he could. Then the line started moving faster and by the time I got to him, it was clear he was doing a cursory inspection of vax cards or phones. I noticed he wasn't checking IDs so kept my driver's license in my pocket ready to give to him if he asked - he didn't. There was a foursome immediately ahead of me, 2 young females (one obviously a mother of a small child with her),1 guy presumably the husband of the woman and maybe his sister (or girlfriend?). The staffer looked at the vax cards of one girl and the guy, didn't look at "Mom's" at all and gave them all the wrist bands and don't remember an ID check.
At the Merrimack game. tent closer to the gate had at least 3, maybe 4 staffers, and checked cards/phones/IDs but my impression was the ID check was cursory (like, if the guy's going to show me a driver's license, it's probably really him). Definitely didn't get the impression anyone was actually comparing the name on the vax card with the ID.
Time to trot out my usual cliche: "It keeps the honest people honest."

They weren't even checking on FF by 1pm or so...buddy and I walked ovah from our tailgate and we checked 2 booths on the way toward the entrance to the stadium, one was abandoned and one just had a bunch of blue bacelets on the table with no one manning the booth.
