The game will be played at 7,000 seat Jack Coffey Field. Two questions:
2) What Boston Major league baseball team did Jack Coffey play for in 1909? Hint before 1907 they were known as the Boston Beaneaters.
3) What year did Fordham host the first ever televised football game in America at Triborough Stadium on Randall's Island?

Fordham is dealing with some significant injuries on their defense. Their best defender, LB Greenhagan, is out as are two of their starting defensive linemen. Thus, I would imagine that we will try to pound the rock, shorten the game and keep DeMorat on the sidelines.

Nothing worse than losing to Fordham, then having to listen to that obnoxious bell being rung by the players as you leave the stadium.

Massey picks HC. He makes the Cross a slight 3 point favorite (31-28) with a 55% chance for the win. Given that the game is in the Bronx, it is not as close a pick as it might appear.

Massey has moved HC up 5 spots with this win. Here are his PL ranks as of today (11/7):
36 HOLY CROSS (7-2) 53 Fordham (6-3) 79 Lafayette (3-6) 90 Colgate (3-6) 107 Lehigh (1-8) 108 Georgetown (2-6) 122 Bucknell (1-8)

I see it as a double digit win if offense plays like it did this past weekend. Stay aggressive look down field, mixed in running backs well and Sluka only ran when it was necessary. Result was the best offense output all year. Although the defense was poor but not sure Fordham defense much better this week. I see it 31-21. Passing game 270 on 24/35 cant ask much more from qb's than that. Punishing running game 245 yards with Oliver and Purdy setting the tone. Enjoy the 3 peat this week!

Here's how we fared against common opponents
MONMOUTH Fordham lost by 3 at home Holy Cross won by 30 on the road
LAFAYETTE Fordham won by 1 on the road Holy Cross won by 25 at home
LEHIGH Fordham won by 7 at home Holy Cross won by 19 on the road
GEORGETOWN Fordham won by 21 on the road Holy Cross won by 34 at home
I believe an objective analyst would say that HC outperformed Fordham against all four opponents.

With the HC balance and strong defense I already like HOLY CROSS over Fordham. PLUS, I remember the pasting that Fordham gave to HC at our "home" game at the stadium in the Bronx. Time for a payback there...if HC avoids fumbles, and dumb penalties.

The national league team probably morphed into the Braves but in 1909 they were called the Boston Doves after the owners, the Dovey Brothers as well as the Boston Nationals, like the Boston Americans the other Major League team in town. The first televised game was on September 30, 1939 with Fordham beating the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets 34-7. Not bad as Waynesburg is 2-0 lifetime vs Penn State.

Time for a payback there...if HC avoids fumbles, and dumb penalties. The Yankee Stadium game indicated a concept validated by the last BC game, the game at Polar Park, the night game at Fitton vs UMass(?), etc. that despite a secular decline in FCS attendance, when the HC marketing machine focuses on an event type game that captures the faithful's fancy and works it hard (although perhaps the BC turnout was surprisingly organic) it can still pull off a doozy of an event.

This promises to be an extremely tough game for HC. I don't have a good feeling about this game. We realize FU's defense has not been effective. However I don't believe HC's offense will be able to carry the team. FU's passing offense led by the best player in the league matches up extremely well against our defense which has shown itself vulnerable to the pass. A star like DeMorant gives FU a tremendous advantage. These type of players usually find a way to win against a competitive foe. We will need to launch a furious pass rush against an OL which protects their QB quite well. Hopefully, coverage sacks/pressures will rule the day for HC. Otherwise, watch out. This could be tough close last minute loss or an FU blowout of HC. Which team would benefit most from bad rainy weather?

Put spiked snow tires on Peter Oliver and he will plow through the great grandsons of the seven blocks of granite. I think a wet track and slippery ball would help our power running game while making passing and catching a wet ball harder.

Peter now stands in 9th place on HC's all-time career yards per rushing attempt at 4.8 yards per carry.

Peter now stands in 9th place on HC's all-time career yards per rushing attempt at 4.8 yards per carry. Quite impressive for what equates today to the traditional fullback role. He can break off a long run right through the middle of the line when the rush would have been successful with four yards and a cloud of dust. This season's stats must be pulling up his earlier years, which is what you like to see. Same concept hopefully with Purdy and Fuller as their careers progress.

Fuller is going to have problems increasing his yards per carry they way the use him as Chesney & Co. tend to put him in when we are inside the 10 yard line and you can't get too many yards that way. Once Peter graduates, my educated guess is he will assume that role and we'll see his yards per carry increase significantly.

Except for the QB position I like our roster compared to Fordham. My concern is that we had a similar situation with Merrimack. And I think DeMorat is better than Merrimack’s QB.

That is certainly a valid comparison, hcpride, but, IMHO, HC is a far better team today than they were going into the Merrimack game. Also, I don't believe there is any chance for overconfidence for Holy Cross this Saturday.

An earlier poster commented that it may be rainy next Saturday in the Bronx. I would assume that would benefit HC, as the wet weather might hamper Fordham’s passing game. Again, grinding and pounding the ball against Fordham’s banged up defense might be the best approach. DeMorat can’t do much sitting on the sidelines.
