This Wednesday, our Crusaders head South to take on the 5-3 (4-3 for those who prefer D-I only records) Stags of Fairfield
The game is not on campus or even in the same town, but in neighboring Bridgeport CT at the Harbor Yard Arena. Those receiving promotional consideration and probably GPS programmers might also call it the Webster Bank Arena. The Stags lost to their only Patriot League foe so far, 70-75 to Loyola in Bridgeport. Former Crusader Caleb Green has started every game for the Stags

Believe this will be Caleb's first personal game against his former team. My recollection was that he was at the Hart Center the last time we played the Stags (11/12/2019) but he had to sit out his transfer year. (We lost 68-63 in OT). So, Caleb was just an interested observer.

Besides DJ Hart and Joe Kennedy, don't think Caleb Green has overlap with anyone else on the roster or coaching staff.

Massey makes Fairfield an 11 point favorite (77-66).

Massey makes Fairfield an 11 point favorite (77-66). ...which means on a neutral court it would be 4 or 5 points? Which means they're not very good, not that HC doesn't tend to make "not very good" look "pretty, pretty, pretty good" (to quote Larry David).

Ken Pomeroy provides a home court advantage number which he calculates by comparing a team's margins in home versus road games in conference play. That makes a lot of sense to me. He gives Fairfield a 2.6 point home court advantage. So the 11 point spread would become 8 points on a neutral court

They gave BC a much better game, that's all I know.

We will be facing one of the great basketball names of our time: "Supreme Cook" should start at center for the Stags

Bet the ranch on the Stags I have seen Fairfield play 3X this year and, while they are not particularly talented, they are well coached and should handle us easily.
By the way Caleb Green is shooting the ball well but his minutes are down from last year.

They are playing all of their games in Bridgeport this year because they knocked down Alumni Hall to make room for their new on-campus arena. Last year they played all of their home games on campus in Alumni Hall. In the years before that, the men played the majority in Bridgeport but a few each year on campus. The women before this year have played virtually all of their games on campus. Typically one a year at Bridgeport.

Besides DJ Hart and Joe Kennedy, don't think Caleb Green has overlap with anyone else on the roster or coaching staff. Yet four of his five HC class of '21 classmates are still playing college basketball elsewhere. Any duplicate of that in NCAA history absent a school closing or dropping a sport? I highly doubt it.

If the current HC starters played the five of six Carmody recruits who arrived at HC in September of 2017 and are still active, who would win?
I'd say the Carmodies, but it shows the value of experience that the Nelsons are gaining every game.

Once again dragging COVID into every thread. . .
There is no vaccination requirement at the Harbor Yard. Masks are required there when not actively eating or drinking

Is Nelson coaching tomorrow? Cannot tell from the game notes.

Scary and sad there's a total lack of interest here on this game. Although I'm as bad as anyone. Pushing the drive limit on a work night, I'm probably going to let a projected inch of snow keep me from making the trek tonight. It might be different if we weren't a bottom ten team

#AttackandServe I think they are uninterested rather than disinterested, but perhaps they are both.
