I've got 4 former pro football (NFL, AFL, even the old AAFC although none of my 4 coached in that league) coaches who were the head coach of a "fine institution" that played Holy Cross.
Can anyone name them? And, can anyone come up with any additional ones? Happy to send that person a tip of the old Tim cap if you do.

Bill Parcels coached at Army but don't know if he coached against HC.

Parcells did coach (and lose) to HC in 1978 at Air Force.
I thought Lou Saban might have been another but we didn't play Army in 1979, his one year there.

The 4 I had were Parcells (AFA), Harbaugh, Holovak and McPherson.
Thanks to thecrossisback for finding all the rest. Don't know how you did it, but I can confirm you hit on all of them. Not sure why you mentioned Pop Warner, he didn't coach pro football that I can tell.

If we're counting assistants, Chip Kelly was OC at UNH before he got hired in same role at Oregon, and then became head coach at Oregon and for the Eagles.
Did we play UNH when he was there in the late 90's and early 2000's?

Did we play UNH when he was there in the late 90's and early 2000's? I did put "head coach" in my question. Another addition we'd need for sure is Buddy Ryan, who was at U Buffalo several years in the 60s, and, I'm sure; many, many others. Not as clear the man needed to coach an HC opponent during a season that HC played that opponent; or we'd have to include Tom Coughlin and Lou Holtz too (and probably several more). Going to do this for basketball too. See hoop thread.

Not sure why you mentioned Pop Warner, he didn't coach pro football that I can tell. No problem. I have my sources lol Pop Warner did not coach pro but they did name youth football after him. His name stuck out and he also joins a trivia question of coaches who as the head coach coached against HC football for 2 different schools. Iron Major Fordham and BC

A little scary actually ....I kid, love the historical perspective you bring here crossisback. I can't believe I didn't think of MacPherson top of my head....getting old.
