With 4 minutes left, HC had all of 40 points. Avery ended up w/12 points, scored 7 of the last 10, plus a layup by Allen and a free throw by Oluchi. The leading scorers at that point in the game were Allen and Oluci with 9 each, Cross with 6 (5 of which came in Q4). No wonder why HC was in trouble with that weak output.

Maggie was great and that was even though she was hampered by a bad knee for much of her career. She had athletic ability to drive to the basket and then touch to get it into the basket in traffic at a very high percentage.
I remember stories of her waitress customers at IHOP following her career from Chicagoland and her grandfather's classmates from the 40's having a cheering section for her. Must have had a similar upbeat personality as Avery.

ls, what were you looking at ? that was an obvious foul on Cross who proved twice in the last 8 seconds that she is STUPID - Her reach-in with 8 secs left would be a foul earlier in the game - aa) why are you reaching in that situation, and bb) what is she thinking blocking out near the half court line with 7 secs left - I'm sorry, coach M, you have to figure out what is bugging her because she and the whole team are very lucky Avery bailed them out Agree 100% that the foul was untimely (just like the last second foul in the Brown game) but your insult is beyond the pale and crass. I hope you will delete it and then I will delete this response.

I’m relying solely on memory here but I think Maggie’s grandfather was Class of 1948.

For HC, UNH coaches, emotional reunion By Greg Levinsky Boston GLOBE CORRESPONDENT DURHAM, N.H. — Even in the heat of a buzzer-beating battle, Maureen Magarity and Kelsey Hogan took a moment to appreciate each other. Opponents now but confidants for a decade, the coaches of the Holy Cross and University of New Hampshire women’s basketball programs shared a long embrace following the former’s 50-49 victory Wednesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. “I do have two big sisters, but she’s another one for me,’’ Hogan said. “I owe her a lot. She’s a big, big role model for me and a huge mentor of mine.’’ A year later than expected because of the coronavirus pandemic, Magarity returned to the campus where she got her head coaching start. The Crusaders (5-4) came away victorious over the Wildcats (3-5). Not only was it a matchup with her old program, but competing against Hogan added another layer. Magarity, UNH’s coach from 2010-20 and Hogan, UNH class of 2014, spent the former’s entire UNH tenure together. Magarity remembers cleaning out her office with a mask on and no one else around. The departure after a decade leading UNH came without proper goodbyes just as the pandemic took hold. When she spoke about her UNH experience, Magarity choked up. “It’s hard not to get emotional because this place will always have a really special place in my heart, ’’ she said. “I couldn’t be happier with where I am, but I’m the person I am today because of [the UNH] opportunity.’’ That Hogan was in line to replace Magarity when she left after the 2019-20 season seemed like a no-brainer. UNH’s associate head coach at the time of Magarity’s departure to Holy Cross, Hogan stayed on as interim coach. Hogan, who enrolled at UNH as a student in 2008 and has been in Durham ever since, later was named permanent head coach. “I just love Kelsey and know how hard she works, how much this means to her, ’’ Magarity said. “Even as a freshman point guard, I knew she was going to be a coach some day.’’ The UNH matchup was Magarity’s second “unique’’ coaching situation in as many years. She coached against her father, former Army coach Dave Magarity, four times last season. They only scrimmaged when Magarity was at UNH but had to play last season as part of their respective program’s Patriot League scheduling obligations. Dave Magarity retired after last season. Although this is Magarity’s second year at Holy Cross, many of the current Wildcats players were recruited during her tenure. And if there weren’t enough connections between these programs already, Holy Cross assistant Kat Fogarty played for Magarity and was a teammate of Hogan’s at UNH. “We had a little emotion in this game,’’ Hogan said. Magarity, who was just 29 when she was hired at UNH, said the university was “a special place to be.’’ She left Durham during the pandemic’s outset and didn’t get a normal sense of closure. Her first time back served more as a hello, something along the lines of Jay-Z’s in “Public Service Announcement’’ — allow me to reintroduce myself. “We’re probably going to continue to play each other, ’’ Magarity said. “It’s silly not to, but this first one was a you have to get it over with sort of thing.’’

Me too. Clearly a "we're mad about this" vibe in the BC release

A quick check of the UNH schedule shows BC playing UNH in Chestnut Hill last year also. I'd have more sympathy for the Eagles if they played home and home with their neighbors in Durham. BC doesn't seem to appreciate how they benefit by not having to fly to Florida for their OOC games with New England teams.
No reason why Eagle fans couldn't take a ride and have lunch on the water in Portsmouth before the game.

No reason why Eagle fans couldn't take a ride and have lunch on the water in Portsmouth before the game. Lunch on the water in Portsmouth sounds lovely. But I don't think BC has ever played UNH in New Hampshire. Could be many reasons for this but most likely the difference in conference/school size and status. UNH with a smaller budget probably needs more local games than BC does so it makes sense for UNH. UNH is probably the team asking for the game with the agreement that they'll come to BC for it if BC is willing to play them. It's likely not a match-up where there would be a home-and-home agreement extending over two seasons. Easy win for BC whenever they can't get them on the schedule so I am sure they like that aspect from their view. No reason we all can't grab a beer in Portsmouth though. I would prefer late summer, however.

I acknowledge the mid majors in New England have much to gain by playing one of the two power conference teams in our region and BC is more accommodating than UConn, but I can't blame UConn - they have to recoup Geno's salary.

Can't figure this one out from what's been written.
UNH has a game at BU on Monday then Merrimack on Wednesday. I guess if we see any more UNH cancellations we'll know who's got the problem. Hope not, as we just played them.

Hope not, as we just played them. UNH though did PPD a game two games ago against Brown on December 1st. UNH has hosted BC but it has been many years as BC is all-time 18-8 against the Wildcats and 15-4 at Conte Forum. UNH won in 1995 in Durham over the Eagles. It seems like this was a very late decision as BC had their game notes posted. s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/unh.sidearmsports.com/documents/2020/11/29/WBBNotes_UNH_1_.pdf

Good info, Bfoley. Must have been one of Cathy Inglese's early teams at BC. Coming over from Vermont, she probably had a good connection to the UNH coach at the time.

Yesterday's decision not to play had nothing to do with Covid as UNH will be at BU and then returns home on Dec 22 to play Merrimack.
