Nice multi-purpose arena for hockey and BB. HC went with two separate mediocre ones. HC’s was built about 40 years ago.

With the semester coming to a close, and frustration everywhere, I hope that there are no departures.
DeSantis comment about his conversation with Green and his decision to transfer was either meaningless or insightful

The harsh truth is that there isn’t a ton of talent in the program right now.

Nice multi-purpose arena for hockey and BB. HC went with two separate mediocre ones. Probably was a harbinger of what was to come. As Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe wrote in SI, "a gym myopically built with 3600 seats." Of course if your vision was for a non-scholarship athletic program, that was plenty big enough.

The harsh truth is that there isn’t a ton of talent in the program right now. If we start all over it delays progress for the right coach. RJJ you don’t want to lose, and can’t comment on Dorsey but you need a pg. Luc is a 11/2-not a pg and not a 2 the rest can develop

What were the main points of the conversation with Green about his transfer?

I won’t get it right but a very rough paraphrase was Nelson was announced and I spent two weeks at HC before I decided to transfer
I will replay later to capture the words more directly. As I said, the comment was either meaningless and delivered out of context or offered some insight
No idea how to read it

Competitive game for 30 minutes then we completely fell apart. Only 7 assists again tonight as we get few if any easy shots. Offense is basically one on one with someone trying to beat their man off the dribble. Don't know what the offensive philosophy is but it's not creating good opportunities. On defense 48 points in the paint as opponents take it to the hoop with little resistance. Luth has shown some improvement but we are woefully weak in the middle.

Nice multi-purpose arena for hockey and BB. HC went with two separate mediocre ones. Well, the building is home of an AHL team.....

It's equivalent to the DCU for HC but looks a little newer and fresher. BU doesn't use Harry Agganis Arena for BB much, thus they don't have to constantly change over the playing surface in that arena.

They also have consistently held their AHL team since opening the building.

I had a different take on the Green/Nelson story.
My impression because it was in the context of none of the HC players were there when Green was at HC (no mention of Hart) was that Green and Nelson’s time only overlapped by 2 weeks as Caleb Was leaving and really never got to know Nelson.

Will we see any comments from Nelson on the game?
Post game quotes, press conference, video interview on goholycross.
The program are losing fans left and right and dying by the day.

Fair read of the comment it was a comment made with nothing to follow so hard for me to connect one way or the other. At that time the there was little suggestion the total roster was about to change

In the 13 years since RW left HC is 142-226, about a 38% winning percentage. With each loss, though, that percentage goes down. 13 years is a very large sample. The program has cratered. It will be interesting to see what the new AD does about it. I feel bad for the players who, I think, are giving their best. I think BN is giving his best too, but he's a bad coach. Basketball is my favorite sport, but I can't even watch the games anymore. I will continue to root for the team but it's hard not to feel pessimistic.

Was at the game last night, after a nice steak at Joseph’s Steakhouse. The team looked very good in the first half, pressure D and an efficient O. Second half, FU adjusted, and HC had no answer. Was with a couple non HC or FU hoop fans. They thought HC was the better team, FWIW. The team played respectable first halves against AF, Q and FU. The team’s second half collapses are perplexing.

No adjustments in game or during halftime, and possibly low basketball IQ to recognize the changes. First half would suggest decent preparation for one offense and defense, but little else. Stir very little on either end with OB plays

LaSalle too. Kind of similar to last night in that it was a tight game for the first 30 minutes or.so. Maybe there will be a power failure in Worcester on Saturday around 3:20 As much as the announcers said there were no open looks for 3's in the first half, some of those Fairfield misses were wide open. Some were well defended, but not all of them as described by the announcers. I liked the announcers. Way more objective than the total homers from LaSalle Part of the Green story was he was on campus taking a summer course. Unless Coach Nelson was criss crossing the country talking to everyone else on the team first, Caleb would have been one of the easiest to get to know. Although part of those two weeks would also involve moving the family from Wisconsin

I mentioned Jim Boylan in a trivia thread- maybe Brett Nelson is headed in that direction; i.e. fired from a not so great (clearly HC is in that category now) program (and SHOULD have been fired) and ended up a good enough coach that he was a head coach in the NBA for a while; and a long time NBA assistant.

I have a really hard time accepting that even mediocre NBA players would accept coaching from someone who while a very good college player wasn’t good enough to play in the NBA and was a disastrous college coach was someone they would follow.

Defense can be taught. If the team isn't playing it, BN isn't coaching it, or not holding the players accountable. Seems like he had the quick hook, but that's not the rocket science part of the game. Footwork, fundamentals, effort, teamwork, some basketball basics. Not everyone is going to accomplish all-league defensive accolades just because they are instructed, but embarrassing backdoor gashes and a lack of rebounding can be minimized more than we've seen.
As for the offense, protecting the ball, telegraphing passes, again, this is 101-level stuff. D1, it SHOULD be an afterthought. If you want to blame young players for that (they'll be better when they're older), I think that's too much leash for these basics. You got a scholarship. I don't expect you to shoot 50% from the floor and dunk your "cigar" (anybody see the Worthy watching his highlights a couple nights ago) all over everyone as a freshman. But you should be able to pass the ball to the correct-colored jerseys.
To the BN culpability on offense, what sets do we run? What looks do we give the defense to open up different concepts? Even the 90s/aughts style offenses of the coach giving the PG the play from the bench... does any of that happen? This AAU tournament hero ball nonsense doesn't work unless you have top flight players.
