Nelson re the new AD: "Our values align." Hopefully our new AD values winning games.

And wouldn't that be a long overdue, positive change!

When was the last time an HC team lost every OOC game? Because that's going to happen with this team. In the 1984-85 season, Holy Cross was 0-12 vs. D1 out of conference (it did beat Assumption). Interestingly, that team went 8-6 in the MAAC, finishing third.
That was the only time.

Thanks a friggen million Blossom. I blame successive HC administrations (i.e., Presidents and the Board of Trustees) since my classmate Woolard's departure for not having enough interest in the basketball program to avoid this never ending downward spiral. Four...count 'em, four...bad head coaching selections in a row. TPTB have pissed away what was once a more than respectable reputation in D-1 basketball...especially for a school of our size. A total disgrace by any measure. Get on the stick, show some interest, fix the problem, damn it!

...the team that Jim Runcie and Larry Westbrook quit. Some time in early January, so most of the OOC losses had already occurred.

So, which is a higher priority if you were to set up a "Go Fund Me" account?
1. To increase Bob Chesney and his staff's salary. 2. To create fund to buy-out Nelson's contract and to pay for a new basketball coach's salary.

Of those 12 losses though were: PC, BC, Marquette, Notre Dame and Maryland. Close losses to Rice 60-62, Yale 55-59, UNH 67-68 and Harvard 66-67. That team was a mess....know a lot of those guys and don't want to rehash a decades old issue. As rough as that season was, we were light years above the way this current team is performing. Frustrated, as we all are, but Nelson is really stahhting to grate on me. We don't need Don Rickles, George Carlin or Shecky Greene to coach our team but from afar, Nelson just comes across as very dour and charmless. He has a reason to be now I know but that's really how I've always perceived him since he started at HC. George and Ralph weren't always ice-cream and lollipops but they nearly always carried themselves with class and wit. As I said earlier, this guy was a "bad fit at HC" the moment he first stepped on Mt St James.

We continue to be the worst team in the country in 2 pt shooting percentage differential
Siena 23-35 65.7 HC 17-38 44.7
Truly amazing how our opponents are consistently 20 percentage points better than us.
PS Not sure if we’re really worst in the nation but we should be if we’re not.

Holy Cross stands at #356 out of 358 teams for opponents 2 point percentage at 60.1% and at #334 for 2 point shooting at 42.4%. Believe it or not, there is a team with both a worse shooting percentage and a wprse defense against two pointers. Mississippi Valley State hits its twos at 39.3 % while its opponents make 61.0% of theirs. There may be others as well but clearly Mississippi Valley State is setting a standard for futility that I hope we will not challenge.

Don't know what to say; I feel sick for everyone - us, the players, even CBN; I doubt he's getting a solid 3 hours of sleep a night. Had to be ultra embarassing to have such a performance in front so many links to the good ole days. And yet there were decent sized portions of the game where they were competitive. They are just so fragile right now...one bad play turns into 3 in a row, and 5-6. Just no answers on the immediate horizon, it seems.
Once again, no Louth (although in uniform). We'll never know why.
Trying to start Twas The Night and I'm staring at a blank Word document. I'm at a total loss as to where to go with it without it sounding even sillier than it normally does. I don't want to pile on the program either......any suggestions welcome!

Is it possible that when the staff looks at the film Louth grades out even worse than Rabs and Kenney defensively? He could still be a player, but that's scary if true.

I would put him in there to play a one man zone right in front of the basket, with a singular task: do NOT allow any uncontested layups. Not advocating dirty play at all, but imho they need to do something to take away the comfort level of opponents getting bunny after bunny.
Maybe he is getting the worst defensive grades....but man, I don't know how he can develop if he sits.

Watching yesterday's game with Siena I have to tip my hat to the announcers. They continue to make encouraging comments about the potential of this team.
There's only one problem: it is a total fantasy.
This team is so flawed and poorly coached that I find it hard to believe they will win more than maybe a couple of games in the entire PL schedule.
First of all, they must be one of the shortest teams in all Div I. Accordingly, they allow more points on drives, low post moves, and put backs of any HC team I can remember.
If Nelson is truly trying to develop this team for the "long run", he has to develop the center position. Rabs. Louth and even Lewis need to get minutes every game. You cannot win with Gates as your inside "presence". The fact that the combination of those three players logged 11 minutes yesterday (all Rabs) is a shame.
I'm sure some will say that "they are not ready yet". Guess what? They aren't going to get better nailed to the bench. They need game minutes. We are barely even competitive in these games anyway. So what's the difference?
If it should turn out that none of these three players can improve and make a difference, then this team is doomed and Nelson's fate is totally sealed.
Just my thoughts.....

Agreed. We just don't have an answer right now and that's on the coaching staff, as much as I hate to pile on. Watching our attempt at a full court press against Fairfield was downright painful.

True - our perimeter defenders are giving up lots of "yardage"......but they also have no strong safety to prevent "touchdowns"

Without going into boring detail, the next 4 years were all losing seasons, many similarities to what's going on now. Even a loss to Assumption thrown in there.

6 assists yesterday, we are #354 out of 358 in assist to turnover ratio illustrating the point that we run no semblance of an efficient offense. Options 1, 2 and 3 are pound it into Gates and let him try to score over 3 bigger people, if that fails Luc or Martindale try to beat their man off the dribble and if that fails someone heaves up a 3 pointer. On defense I wonder if RW was counting the number of players on the roster that would fit his description of not being able to defend a chair. As far as talent is concerned a player that averaged 30 minutes a game for us the last two years is getting no meaningful minutes at the 1-9 school he transferred to. The most concerning thing is there is no improvement in any area from game to game.

Reminds me of a John McKay (ex Tampa Bay Bucs coach) quote after another loss in 1976: "We didn't tackle well today but we made up for it by not blocking."
