Hoops can speak for himself but I think the “almost flunked out” was considered a cheap shot. As I posted before “academically ineligible” might have sufficed. A close call in my book. You mean someone who's Academically Ineligible is often NOT in danger of flunking out? To me they are one and the same, and I don't think a place with rigorous overall (not just studies) standards like the USNA it's anything to be ashamed of. Academically ineligible can happen when they don't take enough classes in both semesters or in the summer to be considered a full-time student. There are minor mistakes that can lead to this.
