Massey makes Navy a 10 point favorite (71-61) at HC with an 85% probability of the win.

Sagarin has Navy as a 16 point favorite on a neutral court.....13 if HC is home.
Obviously it is a home game for the Cross but my bet is that there will be few fans there and the atmosphere will be more of a neutral court.

There is indeed a "silver lining" for HC.

We never drew well for Navy, even when we were good. Of course, there was like a ten year stretch when we always seemed to play them on Wednesday and not Saturday, which makes a difference.

Is there a compelling reason why the men's league schedule cannot begin tonight, as the women are?
Unless I can convince my mom (and family) to celebrate her 93rd birthday at the Hart Center on Saturday, I will be absent. I've been to 12/31 road games at Dartmouth, Fordham and Princeton, but I cannot remember a HC game taking place on New Year's Day. crossisback? Other historians out there?

Only twice before have the Crusaders played on New Year's Day . . .
January 1st, 1930. vs. Yale. Lost, 28-20. January 1st, 1966. vs. Drake. Lost, 65-52.

Could there be less juice for a New Year's Day game against Navy?

It’s not so much that the opponent is Navy without the juice, it’s the Crusaders without the juice and combine Covid concerns and I’m not going to the shock of my family.
I’m interested enough to watch on ESPN+ but not to make the trek up 146.

Agree A big “NADMOM Happy 93rd Birthday Greeting” on the new video boards would be just what she and your family would celebrate until her 94th

Otherwise, Sunday would seem to be a better choice. Semester break, not like anyone's missing class the next day (ok, maybe Navy's got classes already, possibly)

Navy, not Colgate, is the top PL team in the NCAA’s current NET ranking

Semester break, not like anyone's missing class the next day (ok, maybe Navy's got classes already, possibly) CBSSN game has never affected when any other games were scheduled. One issue is that if the opening games were played on Sunday, it would be a short turnaround for anyone with a road game. Not many coaches would be thrilled having to play Sunday and then Tuesday.

HC has played 1 game in the last 17 days and it has been kind of refreshing to get away from the futility of watching them play. This is probably my low point in being an avid follower since circa 1965.

My low point is going on 10 years now. Saw the team play in person once this year. After throwing up in my mouth, I vowed never to attend another HC basketball game again until the administration publicly admits this is unacceptable and does something substantial to improve the level of play to legitimate D-1. The new AD has his work cut out for him but is in a good place because failure is always an option at HC.

Since I am not going, if anyone is interested in 2 chairback tickets at mid court that used to be the President’s seats, PM me as they are electronic tickets which should be easy for me to send to you.

It's going to be a very "munch and crunch" kind of game....low scoring with a lot of long possessions. Their opponents only average 59 points a game. They held UVA to 58 points and Mt St Mary's to only 40.
They shoot the three poorly at only 31% but they are holding their opponents to only 30%.
Looking over their roster, they have very little height (who play); yet they are outrebounding their opponents by 7 rebounds a game.
We'll need to cut down our turnovers and shoot the three well to be competitive.
Amazing stat: every one of our top 11 players (in terms of minutes played) has more turnovers than assists.
I'll be watching today. Hope we will see Dorsey and Austin Lewis get some minutes. They both have skills we really can use (Dorsey's passing and Lewis's outside scoring).

Navy has been #1 offensive rebounding team in PL play every year since 2015-16 and has been very good with defensive rebounds as well. I guess the team has some sort of offense and defense that emphasize that........
