Henry Finkel was the only player I recall who was better than Chris Potter in guarding the inbounds pass—best ever

Cousy did get "traded"! In 69-70 Cousy had just started coaching the Cincinnati Royals and needed some depth at the guard position. He chose himself, figured he could play 5-10 minutes a game and help out (which, it turned out, he couldn't, retired for good after 7 games). Red immediately pointed out to the NBA that the Celts still had Cousy's rights. So, the Royals had to give up a player (Bill Dinwiddie) for him. Not a bad return for a 41 year old guy who had been retired for 6 years. In a similar, but shorter time frame note, Red traded Dave Cowens, who had been retired for two years, to Milwaukee for Quinn Buckner

Thank you for posting, efg. Guesses on the Celts all 75 year teams Hopefully regardless of positions 1st team - a no brainer: Cooz, Russell, Bird, Havlicek, Cowens Harder- 2nd team- Heinsohn, McHale, Sam Jones, Pierce, Garnett 3rd team- Sharman, KC Jones, Parrish, Ray Allen, Tatum(recency bias ?) HM- Jo Jo White, Sanders, Ramsay, Reggie Lewis I know I have forgotten some. Pretty much in agreement, but for some reason I never warmed up to Pierce. I’d probably (reluctantly) put him on my third team - if not HM. Where’s Henry “Don’t call me Hank” Finkel? I also didn't warm up to Pierce to the extent of putting him in the same class as a Sam Jones or Havlicek, but he was one tough player. During one of the couple of years before Garnett and Allen arrived I had seats for a game just about where the goalie would stand for a hockey game. The Celts were way down and their main weapon was Pierce. He drove toward the basket right in front of us and got totally mauled by three defenders including the loud crack of a forearm to the face that reverberated throughout the non-full arena. Pierce made the basket, made the free throw and came out for a couple of minutes before checking back in.

2nd all time scorer for Celtics. Downplayed because only one ring. Less than #33 Steve Kuberski
