I'll put up the annual "How Many Regular Season Games Will Holy Cross Win" poll next week and keep it open until the morning of our first game. I think I can speak for every Crusader fan on this board in saying that we are all anxiously awaiting the start of what shapes up as a potentially great season for HC. In the interim, I thought it might be good to revisit our last two polls--for 2019 and Fall 2021. We did not have a poll for the Spring 2021 season. here's how we voted
2019
10 or more= 0 8-9= 10 6-7= 29 the consensus opinion was spot on as we won 7 regular season games in 2019 4-5= 6 3 or fewer= 1
2021
10-11= 8 8-9= 29 the consensus opinion was again right on the money as we won 9 games 6-7= 13 4-5= 0 3 or fewer= 1
Let's see now who our top prognosticators were, i.e. those posters who stated the exact number of wins in their posts, not those who got correct the 6-7 or 8-9 poll selection
2019-- Posters specifying 7 wins in their posts
EFG72 hcpride rgs318 KY CRUSADER 75 rickii
2021--Posters specifying 9 wins in their posts
Sader1970 hcpride HC92 rgs318 Cruskater31
So great job by the group in composite and the posters above specifically but particularly rgs318 and hcpride who nailed the exact number in both 2019 and 2021. We will await their 2022 predictions with keen anticipation.
Maybe I can dig into the archives and find 2018 as well, but I've been busy with Saratoga running 5 days a week.....

If you have never been to Saratoga, go. And I am nether a bettor nor a big horse racing fan.

While you are there, be sure to visit the Rev War battlefield and see the memorial to Benedict Arnold's "boot."

In the 70's the tables by the track had white table cloths and you felt like you were in an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel set in the Roaring 20's. Hope it hasn't changed.

“8. Holy Cross The Patriot League is Holy Cross’ for the taking and it’s hard to see anyone nabbing it from them at the moment. They’ve claimed the league title three years in a row and until someone can prove they’re worthy of dethroning them, the Crusaders sit firmly at the top. The program took a big step last year when it won its first ever playoff game. This team is trending in the right direction and senior linebacker Jacob Dobbs has the defense looking as stout as ever. It won’t be a shock if this squad gathers enough wins to not only win the conference again but to sit the first round out.”

We have finally arrived in the national picture. What everyone on Crosssports has wanted. Now let’s just hold up our end of the bargain. One play, one game at a time. Keep the blinders on and don’t read your press clippings.

Keep the blinders on and don’t read your press clippings. People will be amazed by the size, speed and overall talent of this year's team. Finally HC fans get to see a Crusader team with a true redshirt class...and probably a shock to some, the school has not collapsed or spontaneously combusted.
It's going to be a great and extended year at Fitton...plus one weekend at Polar Park.
Can't wait.

Couldn’t agree more gks. Whole new attitude in the President’s office, Admissions as well new leadership in the AD’s office. All understand that you can be a winning program and not hurt the academic reputation of the college. Amen!!

Finally administration and the football program are in sync.
Now you're about to see the benefits.

Yes. But not the men’s basketball program, at least yet. (apologize for changing the topic. Could not resist)

The cost of keeping Chesney was keeping Nelson.

Unfortunately I feel like with Kit Hughes he’s a little tentative with fixing the bball situation. Like MB was a basketball guy and not really interested and supportive of football I feel like KH is more a football guy and not plugged in to the bball community. Only if there is another embarrassing season do I feel he’ll make a change. Don’t know but I think he’s trying to give BN A chance to improve the program. I know BN was at the football golf outing. I feel like they’re trying to introduce the guy to team success. Again only a guess on my part.

The cost of keeping Chesney was keeping Nelson. I agree. Paying to keep Chesney around and then firing Nelson would have sent shock waives through Fenwick. They are now getting acclimated to football success.

My gut tells me for the winning culture in football to impact the Nelson mindset requires him to be open tp change and recognize this is about the success of the team and not just his personal success and reputation. A quick look at the record indicates it will take years for him to get close to .500
Will he mature and grow? we can only hope because he has put a fork in a once very proud program.
And I agree with the comments above re the likely reasons for the decision to keep Nelson given the much deserved increase for Chesney and hopefully the staff.
But imho that is why the PL, overall, is not ideal for Holy Cross —it allows the Board and Administration to use the perceived academic reputation of the league as cover to accept and in some ways encourage mediocrity for athletics so it can make the minimum investments to participate. But that is the opinion of one on a Sunday morning before I go off to mass and pray for a safer and better world, and of course 9 plus wins in football and perhaps some divine intervention to create a much improved environment for Holy Cross Basketball.
Happy Sunday
