Nice to see Golf Digest pick up this story. Steve Napoli is coaching these boys up. 180 yards with an 8 iron!? Who is the strength coach for this team?

This is definitely the most attention HC golf has gotten in my lifetime. At least there will be more name recognition among some young golfers who might be able to improve our fortunes.

Another, even before my time
September 17, 1938
His father, an Italian immigrant, walked out of New York City one day looking for a job. About 20 miles into Westchester County, he spotted some laborers digging dirt along the roadside in Elmsford, N.Y. He picked up an idle shovel and joined in not knowing what everyone was digging for. The duly impressed boss hired him on the spot. As it turned out, the work crew was building a golf course. Over time his father became head greenskeeper, working at Fairview Country Club for 50 years.
Willie Turnesa '38, the youngest of seven sons, learned golf from the grass roots up alongside his six brothers, who all turned professional. Willie accepted a scholarship to Holy Cross. As a Crusader Willie lost only one individual match in four years while winning three New England collegiate championships. Gerry Anderson '38, his teammate and a Holy Cross Hall of Famer, once recalled that he started using a wedge as a senior. "I remember telling Willie about it...he had never used a wedge." Willie, always deadly with a nine-iron, made the switch he would never regret.
Three months after graduation, Turnesa won the 42nd US Amateur Golf Championship played at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club. Willie humbled Oakmont which was infested with bunkers. The press dubbed him "Willie the Wedge."
Later known as America's Amateur Golf King, Turnesa won the 1947 British Amateur and his second U.S. Amateur in 1948. In 1950, Willie was Captain of the U.S. Walker Cup team. Unlike his six brothers (Jim, Joe, Mike, Phil, Doug and Frank), Willie always remained a true amateur. In 1956, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the Holy Cross Varsity Club's Hall of Fame. He returned to Worcester to play in charitable exhibitions with Holy Cross' great Paul Harney '52 and others.

What a great video. Sounds like Christian is looking to do a grad transfer year or two. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Has anyone noticed that the college hasn’t mentioned anything on this?!?! A bit odd in my mind given it was on national media. Easy thing to post about…. Too bad

My brother-in-law in Florida and a good friend in North Carolina each saw a clip about it on the news. It has been covered by the media in some states, perhaps just not much in Massachusetts.

When you look at the football publicity from last night coupled with the national coverage of our golfers,I don’t think HC has had a week like this in a very long time Our team shot 68 - 69 - 70 - 73 in the first round of their weekend tourney in Ct - not bad

A recent albatross on the PGA tour, caught on video. Only 139 double eagles recorded on the PGA tour. It seems recordkeeping of this achievement began in 1982
