Any time I see Hop Riopel getting recognition for one or more of his many years of contributions to HC Sports I feel good. PS: He may also have been our first NIL recipient when he was..."presented with a gift of $400 in gold (a purse of gold coins). Hop was later honored by Holy Cross fans in a testimonial on June 8, 1948." [Current value of that gift would be about $212,000]

Curious that losing to Flutie’s BC team 45-10 is a nominee for top HC sports moment of all time. Might tell us everything we need to know.

No disrespect to women's hockey in 2009, but I can think of many other moments that should make the list.

Don't usually put losses in a thing like this, but the nature of the game and the way they lost, the Orange Bowl game makes sense. A regular season beat down by a team that happens to have a heisman winner - not so much.
I'm not sure having a D-I school win a D-III conference championship (and if I recall correctly not going to the NCAA's because they weren't eligible for the D-III tourney) is a top sports moment. Although better than getting blown out by Flutie and BC
Bob Cousy was a great ball player, a fine person, and truly a credit to Holy Cross. Well deserving of his statue. Is erecting a statue - even a statue of an athlete - a "sports" moment? Not in my book
These lists are made to start conversations and elicit opposing view points. There's mine

3/??/1977. HC beats Providence 68-67 (or 67-66) on a basket by Chris Potter with 3 seconds left to win the ECAC New England tournament and garner a NCAA bid.
Providence was 6th ranked and assured of going to the Dance. HC, playing w/o Ron Perry (badly sprained ankle, which caused him to miss the NCAA game vs Michigan), was most likely uninvited if they lost.
I've been a fan since 1969 and this was undoubtedly the best basketball moment of those 53 seasons.
And don't forget the steal-and-dunk by Mike Vicens as PC was trying to run time off the clock (no shot clock then).

My top hoops moment since 1961 NIT, especially knowing Chris since coaching against him in HS.

Two additional points - First, the subject game was the second time in that season that Potter hit a buzzer-beater to knock off the Friars. Second, with this win, the ‘Saders went to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1956 (the year Potter was born). This is a much more meaningful moment in HC sports history than the football team only being down 7 at halftime against BC and Flutie!! Who cares about that? We lost another football game to BC. (And for the record, the game was played on March 5th, with the final score being 68-67 as you initially noted.) Remember the photo of Vicens’ reverse tomahawk dunk and his glaring at Bob Misevicius? Still etched in my mind 45 years later.

HC was also missing John O’Connor who tore his Achilles’ tendon and was never really the same when he came back.

I know this is a HC top moment string, but whenever I think of all time great moments, I smile and think back to a game my son payed in....As the game played on at the far end of the court, 2 "little old ladies" entered the gym and proceeded to use their walkers to go directly across the court to the bleachers...as the game was being played!! Officials and players on the court never saw the 2 move across the court!
Great moment in sports!
By the way, Potters shot and MV's dunk are my high point..and Bobby Kelly's dunk over Clark Kellog to end the first half of the Ohio State game is also up there

John Provost’s game at Fitton versus Brown should be on the list. I can’t recall the exact details but he had multiple touchdowns via interceptions and/or punt returns and he blocked punts -a complete domination of the game, the best one game performance by any HC athlete in any sport that I witnessed.

He controlled the game from a position that generally can only help contain it. Throw in Gill Fenerty's romp against Columbia as well as Joe Wilson's big game against some team I can't recall.
Another huge game by a runming back at Fitton in the early 80s was unfortunately by an opponent, Rich Diana of Yale. That game was close to a sellout as both teams were having good seasons.

Agree with the Gil Fenerty 6 TD (in 3 quarters) game vs Columbia

They left out the '66 victory over BC? As for the 1964 10-8 loss, at the end of the game, Anderson sent out second-string lineman Ray Weaver to try to kick the winning field goal Unfortunately, the snap was bad and Weaver missed his chance at glory. According to my old roommate, the late Brian Kavanaugh, at the first 1965 practice, they lined up for the kick again and Weaver made it.

Brian was a classmate & friend. He was a heckuva' guy. Reminder to all youngsters, HC defeated BC in'63 and '66 our Freshman & Senior years. Now, that I'm in my senior years HC continues to delight in 2022 . The current team is very special. Time for my Graham Crackers & warm milk before bedtime.Good night. GoCrossGo.
