Noticed this on at least one other televised game and very noticeable yesterday.
A time out was taken for a change of possession, injury, etc.
They went to commercials and/or Ivy promos. Those more or less lasted the standard amount of time for such things, no issues with that.
What you would expect at that point was both clubs more or less ready to resume play. Wasn't the case. Both teams more often than not would be in expanded huddles on the sidelines with their respective coaching staffs. The game would not resume for a good minute or so.
Games are too long as it is, why are they doing that?

This is nothing more than my speculation.
When there is a media timeout, the referee waits for a signal from a media representative on the sidelines that the commercial interruption has been completed. The media representative will not give that signal until the TV picture has returned to the field. Only when that signal is given will the referee blow his whistle to resume play.
The teams huddling on the sidelines do not know the media timeout has concluded until the referee gives the signal to resume play, and they feel no need to get back onto the field until the referee has given that signal. (Even if the referee's signal means the 25-second play clock begins to run, the teams can get back onto the field and into position for the next play before the play clock expires.)

That game took like 3:35. That’s ridiculous. Especially when it had to get my son to a 4:40 basketball game in Braintree.

There did seem to be an absolutely bizarre number of VERY extended timeouts plus the replay looks by the officials which really impacted the flow of the game. Maybe I just noticed it more in person than I usually do on the ESPN+ coverage. On another note, there was some odd and rambling commentary regarding ‘crusaders’ as the Harvard band took the field. From a stadium PA narrator - the usual boffo sophomoric Ivy stuff. Finally, I was hoping to match the Merrimack -Harvard (night game) attendance but we didn’t come close.

I wouldn't normally bring this up but since 92 has been so expansive, I have to say that the father-son dynamic between he and his HC-to-be son is hilarious. I'll just leave it at that.

I’ve commented before that these games take way too long. There is no sense of urgency on the part of the officials to move things along. Like a few gentleman playing a leisurely round of golf. Reviews need to be a lot faster a and the interminable delays after scores, punts, and kickoffs needs to end. Kick it, spot it, and snap the damn ball. You’d save a half hour on that alone.

I don't think the officials are orchestrating the parade, their job is to follow instructions. You're lucky if you were there watching the band's antics instead of some of the commercials.

One positive was when the review video went down the refs wouldn't go along with taking extra time reviewing the ESPN feed. They just let the call on the field stand.

In my son’s AAU games, the refs don’t call any fouls if it’s regular clock stoppages on every whistle. If it’s running time, they’ll call it more like a regular game because it doesn’t keep them there any longer.
