Massey makes HC a 20 point favorite (27-20) with a 93% chance for the win.

53 points in 6 games, at least 7 of which were scored by the defense (an 80 yard pick 6).
But their defense is certainly more formidable than what HC was up against yesterday.

Penn looked fantastic yesterday and Laffy held them to 12 points. Princeton to 23. I am not worried considering our multi-dimensional offense (although they do have the week to prepare as well) and their anemic offense. I can see us scoring on special teams with a punt block (they will be punting a lot) and I can see our D scoring a TD.

I watched most of the Lafayette-William & Mary game last month. Tribe grounded and pounded them en route to 31-7 win. I expect us to so the same.
I'll be there unless we decide to have my daughter's 3rd birthday celebration that afternoon, as her actual birthday is Tuesday the 25th.
As always, the Lehigh Valley road trip is always one I highly recommend for those in Metro NY with access to a car.

Lafayette is ranked 64 in Pass Defense (225 ypg). Ranked 35 in Run D (122 ypg).
I think we can air it out if we want. Balance attacked coming I am sure.

Some more playing time for our subs in 4th Q again would be nice. Still a lot of season left and having more players with game experience is always a plus.

This game is still over a week away, but I thought I would add some notes from the Pards' website about their win over Bucknell, the young Lafayette players, and our upcoming game:
Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week: A.T. Ntantang played a key role in the Patriot League-opening win at Bucknell. The junior cornerback intercepted the first two passes of his career. His pick near midfield in the third quarter led to a Leopards’ offensive score and a 17-6 lead. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native put the game out of reach with an 80-yard pick-six with eight minutes left in the game.
Turnover Battle at Bucknell: Lafayette forced three turnovers on a wet day at Bucknell. In addition to Ntantang’s two interceptions, DaRon Gilbert, picked off another pass while the Leopards only gave up one fumble on a punt return. Leading the League: Through five games, Lafayette’s defense is leading the Patriot League in scoring (18.0 ppg) and red-zone defense (68.4%) while also ranking second in yards allowed (353.4) and net kickoffs (40.1 ypk).
A Little Bit of a Run: It’s no secret that Lafayette head coach John Troxell wants to be able to run the ball, but an inexperienced and banged up offensive line has limited those opportunities thus far. The Leopards showed some glimpses of an improving run game at Bucknell, rushing for a season-high 137 yards. Freshman Jamar Curtis finished the day with 17 carries for 56 yards while sophomore Jermaine Conyers added 13 for 46.
QB Rent Montie netted 34 rushing yards, including a 42-yard scoring run on a QB draw, the Leopards’ longest running play in 2022. Montie also added a one-yard score on a QB sneak just before halftime. Upcoming: The Leopards will get a brief respite from the grind of the football season and an opportunity to get a little healthier with the bye week slated for Oct. 15. The bye week also coincides with fall break on the College Hill campus. From there, it will be Patriot League play the rest of the way, starting with reigning conference champ and current No. 10 Holy Cross on Oct. 22.

John Troxell is in his first season as head coach of the Lafayette Leopards. The ’94 Lafayette alum returns to College Hill after a 16-year head coaching stint at Franklin & Marshall College. When Troxell first arrived at F&M, the Diplomats hadn’t managed a winning season in 13 years. Four years later, after a full recruiting cycle, the Diplomats finished with a 9-2 record and continued to climb, subsequently reaching the postseason on nine occasions. Leopards fans are hoping for similar results on College Hill as the Maroon and White search for their first Patriot League title since 2013.
Troxell has been a key ingredient in program rebuilds at each of his stops, and his time on College Hill as an assistant coach on Frank Tavani’s staff was no exception. He served various roles as the running backs coach, recruiting coordinator and special teams coach from 2001-05. His selection as the recruiting coordinator in 2003 helped kick off a stretch of three straight titles for the Leopards in 2004, 2005 and 2006 that coincided with the program’s first three NCAA FCS Playoff appearances.
Prior to Lafayette, Troxell was part of a dramatic reversal at Muhlenberg College from 1997-2000 under head coach Mike Donnelly. He served multiple roles, working as the special teams coordinator (1997-99), quarterbacks coach and wide receivers coach (1997-2000) and offensive coordinator (2000). Muhlenberg progressed from a 1-9 season in 1997 to the Eastern College Athletic Conference title with a record of 9-2 in 2000. In 2000, under Troxell’s tutelage, the offense ranked 22nd in the nation and led the Centennial Conference in total offense (427.8 ypg) while averaging 31.0 points per game. Troxell joined the Muhlenberg staff after serving as an assistant coach for three seasons (1994-96) at Columbia University under head coach Ray Tellier, beginning his career path of coaching at elite academic institutions. In 1996, Troxell oversaw a secondary that recorded the third-best passing defense in the country. The turnaround tendency first showed itself at Columbia in 1994 when the Ivy League school recorded its first winning season in 23 seasons. An 8-2 mark and the program’s best finish in 15 years followed in 1996. His first extended stint on College Hill came as a student-athlete from 1990-94, when he earned his bachelor’s degree in government and law. Troxell was the starting free safety on the Leopards’ 1992 Patriot League Championship team and received the Unsung Hero Award as a senior. He completed his master’s degree in sociology and education in 1997 while on staff at Columbia.

Do you really believe Lafayette will get 2 safeties on HC?

Going with the assumption that we could have defeated Bucknell by 70 if we hadn’t called off the dogs AND going with the assumption Lafayette is a little bit better than Bucknell I’d guess we will win by 50 or thereabouts v Laffy. Less if we sit the 1’s early.

While channel surfing the other night, I ran across the rerun of Princeton's 23-2 win over Lafayette. Based on that game, the Leopards shouldn't do much better against HC than Bucknell did.

Do you really believe Lafayette will get 2 safeties on HC? NY can confirm himself, but maybe he's anticipating Lafayette blocking a couple of HC extra points and running them back.

Good point, but then I should've projected a more awkward score for HC instead of the common 31. 4 points could also be the combination of a field goal and a one point safety. A one point safety occurs when the defensive team either fumbles the ball through its own end zone or advances ball backwards before being tackled in its own end zone after a PAT try by the offensive team.

Notice any similarities in Coach Troxell's background to the coach of the league Champs?

Is that the rule in college? Can't remember... It's happened at least 3 times in HC games. Once for HC (vs Northeastern in 1988), once for the Johnnies/Crimson whichever-you-prefer in 2000. Then there was the infamous blocked PAT that would have given HC a victory at Dartmouth in TG's final season; the Green ran it back to ostensibly win; but it was negated by a penalty during the runback.

That Dartmouth game was in 2017 right after we beat UNH. Season went downhill bigly after that. Dartmouth won that game in OT. In college a PAT has been returnable by the defense for as long as I can remember and is worth 2 points. The NFL just recently made it so that PATs are returnable by the defense for 2. Previously, any turnover on a PAT was a dead ball.

Certainly the new Lafayette coach has good credentials. Lafayette is one school which seems determined to build a stronger program. He would not have signed unless he was sure he could win in the PL. I would hope some day to see a stronger PL as it maintains its academic policies. HC had gotten quite good prior to 5th year covid players, other PL schools can do it, too.

The ‘Pards are at the bottom of FCS offense averaging a measly 195 yards per game through 6 games - and I don’t think their defense can stand up to our offense

We should be able to jam it down their throats. I don't think we'll put up 40-50 points but we should grind our way to a comfortable win. Leopards will need some luck to score more than 14 points in this one.

Lafayette has shown absolutely nothing that would leave one to believe they’re serious about football.
