Impressive to be named captain a few months after arriving on campus.

The Badgers have five early games on an ESPN channel or ESPN+ before most are streaming for a subscription fee on Big+ with a few on BTN.

OldSchool, do you know if W chooses captains by players or appointed by the coach? Even more impressive if the former.

This blurb was in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last week:
Graduate transfer Avery LaBarbera already has made impact
The former Holy Cross standout who was the Patriot League player of the year last season will serve as one of the team's captains. This marks the second straight year Moseley added a veteran guard to the team's dynamic.
"She's a floor general. She's a great leader. She understands time and score and pace of play," Moseley said. "She can get people organized and they have really rallied around her. You can't get that with young players."

Found an article from 2009 that Wisconsin players selected the women’s captain. Nothing more recent to see if that’s still the case.
In related news, has been interesting to hear Geno gush about his grad transfer from Fairfield and how polished she is as a scorer and how well she has fit with the team so quickly.

Thank God (for HC) grad transfers will be more of an anomaly after the Covid extra year of eligibility ages out of the system.
Or will they become baked in with savvy players, parents and coaches "game planning" how to manage four seasons of eligibility over five years of higher education while earning two degrees now that the process has been working out well for players and schools with graduate programs during the Covid aftermath?

IIRC, Pat Benzan’s sister did just that sitting out her senior year at Harvard (no athletic scholarship) and then played a season at Maryland.

She did do that, originally headed to Texas, but ended up at Maryland after a coaching change at TU. Played 2 seasons at MU

Just about as poor a shooting performance by both teams as you'll ever see - 31 pct by UW and 27 pct by Milwaukee (seems Avery will be depended upon to score from the point position)

Amazing that even at a higher level she's still pulling down all those rebounds! I watched one sequence with Avery out of camera range after she passed the ball. Three or four Badgers touched the ball after the pass and then a shot was launched. The assumption would be Avery was back on defense because you couldn't see her. No, the ball clanged right, the camera swung and showed Avery in the right place for the rebound. A taller defender got that one but it showed she has a nose for the carom.

I like this format better than HC's "94 feet" because it allows players to expand on their answers if they choose to before turning into a pumpkin at the end line of the court.

Avery is captain. Definitely going to going to be following UW this season. The head coach of UW used to be the head coach 2 years ago at BU (PATRIOT LEAGUE). She is very familiar with Avery. Great match for Avery.
