Too bad O'Brien was not out there too. That would be fun for them I imagine. As you probably know, O’Brien has been out with a leg injury, possibly a high ankle sprain. Prior to that, she was leading Florida State in minutes played per game (35 mpg) and was averaging 16.5 PPG. Florida state has surprise some people by starting out the season with an 8–1 record.

Indeed. Hopefully she gets back out on the court soon. Ankles are tricky so probably best in her grad season that she makes sure it's good to go before playing.

Avery faced a team today with an explosive offense she’s never seen in the PL - scored 6 pts on 1 for 8 shooting in 102-71 loss Marisa Mosley has a very big job at UW, now 3-7

Gonna be a cold winter in Madison - UW lost by 28 to Nebraska last night but Avery had a very good game with 17 pts (incl 5 of 7 from 3) 5 rebs and 3 assists So far she has proven she can play at this high-major level.

I don’t have a vested Interest in Wisconsin but do with Avery for being a Crusader. As long as she personally does well, I’m happy. Presumably the Badgers would be even worse without her play and leadership.

No doubt the Badgers would be worse without Avery, averaging 10 pts and 5 rebs - that being said, after yday’s 73-61 loss at Purdue UW sits in 14th and last place in the Big 10 with a 4-11 (0-4) record - Marisa Mosely’s best 2 players are AL and a sr. Forward - imagine she’s feeling some pressure looking ahead

It’s too bad Avery was already committed to Wisconsin when UConn learned they’d be without Paige. They wound up signing a young point guard who was headed to a Juco. Avery could have done quite well in that spot. UConn’s starters played 191 of 200 minutes in their last game. The only two available subs were both frosh.

Avery just missed a trip to the NCAA tournament at HC and it doesn't look good for the Badgers this year. Imagine if she went to the Dance and won it all with UConn.

AL had a big game yday with 20 pts and 7 rebs in 81-77 win over Minnesota - the Badgers first Big 10 win

UW would be in big trouble without Avery - she’s playing the most minutes on the team, 33.5 m/gm and the backup PG is a walk-on

I watched a good amount of the game, Avery fits in well, and is the on court leader. Fun to watch her in that red uni!

IMO, a number of the younger players would not have had the same opportunity to develop.

We would have had a better out of conference record and thus a better chance of a higher seed fir the NCAAs if we qualified.

I don't see more than one game difference (a win against Boston College). Would that be enough to accomplish what you predict?

Though we got blown out, the Vermont game would have been much closer, and a possible win. Marquette also would have been more competitive. A BC win would have helped our seed. We also would have a better chance at an undefeated final league record. That could also have helped our seed.

😂👌. Hoops made the definitive answer.
I’m happy for Avery and she knows we miss her and wish her well.
I expect we’ll see her soon as a color commentator covering women’s basketball games.

Everything has its time. AB left with a degree and love for HC, and has had the chance to experience playing at a big time school. MM got to play and develop a talented group of young players who have succeeded beyond expectations. Seems to me it worked out perfectly for everyone.

Agree it was the best decision for Avery, except for the losing her current team is experiencing. The decision may be somewhat beneficial for HC in the long run, giving some of her minutes to young players. That may be hard to prove. Whether it is beneficial for this year’s team has yet to be determined. Doing very well now. The rest of the season ? I think Avery’s absence will be sorely felt at some critical juncture, especially at the end of one, or more, pivotal games. We shall see.

Avery wanted to get a degree in sports management and HC doesn’t have that. She wanted to test her skills against power conference players. That she became team captain at Wisconsin demonstrates her continued leadership skills and abilities. As we know, she speaks well in front of the camera.
She’ll be a success at whatever she chooses to do.
