We do have a number of seniors and 5ths but I think a number will be back and we will have another solid team for BC and Army. Very special to go to West Point on Veterans' Day. Looking forward to it. FBS Schedules had it listed this morning. fbschedules.com/ncaa/holy-cross/

Army plays three Bay State teams among their eight (8) home games. It will be a well worn road from Mass. to West Point by the time HC takes it. A great way to compare ourselves against the local FBS contingent. We play BC earlier in the season, right? Love having two FBS games against traditional rivals when HC has such a good coach and program. Hats off to whoever scheduled these games.

Many FBS programs only schedule one FCS each year but AWP had two this season and two in '23 - our two FBS games are the top two many of us would pick, that's for sure great job by Kit to get this done

The story and time line behind scheduling this game would be interesting to hear. I assume at this point no game goes on the schedule without sign off from Coach Chesney.

I would hope that is the case, with each game HCBC approved! .

Having 2 FBS games may complicate our ability to get a seed next year if we don’t win at least one of them. BC and Army would seem to be a step up from the teams we’ve beaten the last couple of years. Whether we’re better or worse next year will depend on Dobbs’ status as well as who returns for a 5th year.

Even if it costs us a seed, playing BC and Army in the same season makes the schedule wonderful

The current fifth years should be replaced with a new batch (thanks Covid) and Sluka and his top receivers will have another year together so I'm hopeful we'll make a good showing. If Fordham gets into the tournament this year with a close loss to an FBS team it will be a good sign that strong showings in FBS games aren't overly penalized by the committee.

Who are our other OOC games next year? Is it a 12 game season?

Only 3 games are listed, Yale, BC and Army. So there's 2 or 3 more to be added. Still hopeful one of them is Harvard, they only have St. Thomas of Minnesota listed; 2 more possible for them.
I found this:
"All FCS teams were allowed to schedule 12 regular season games in the 2019 season. A standard provision of NCAA bylaws allows for 12 regular season games during years having 14 Saturdays in the period starting with the Labor Day (first Monday in September) weekend and ending with the last Saturday of November. The next time that a 12-game regular season will be allowed is 2024."
I would have thought 2023 was ok for 12 games but there's only 13 such Saturdays as specified above. Always thought it was aligned with HC's schedule up until the early 80s when the BC game was either the Saturday after Thanksgiving; but on the Saturday after that if that Saturday was December 1 or 2.
By the way, next year Army/Navy is on December 9 and the game's at Gillette.

Army, BC and Yale are top shelf opponents. All away games. Harvard would come here if we play them as would Merrimack. I would enjoy playing the Johnnies and wouldn't be put off by Merrimack. Two questions:
1)Would you play either of in-state Harvard or Merrimack at Polar because their fans have at least heard about the ballpark and seeing it would be an attraction, or put a low drawing PL opponent in Polar and hope to fill that little bandbox with the growing number of local fans?
2) If we will be playing Harvard, would you trade a home game with Merrimack for an away game against a good CAA opponent?
I assume the actual schedule is already set so these questions are hypothetical.
1) I would play a low drawing PL opponent at Polar (might have to anyway due to baseball schedule). I also wouldn't be opposed to suspending the Polar games while we have Chesney and HC FB is hotter than a firecracker.
2) I would not trade a home game with Merrimack for an away game with a CAA team. Let them come here if they want to play a good opponent in a big stadium.

The way the calendar works, FCS schools can have 12 games every 5 year cycle in back to back years....the next ones being in 2024 and 2025. In 2019 we played Navy and Syracuse, we were supposed to play BC in the cancelled 2020 Fall season...forget if we had another FBS opponent slated for that season or not.
I have no problem playing 2 FBS schools in an 11 game season like next year...particularly against historic rivals like BC and Army.

I am sure HC will be the underdog in each of those 2 games. BUT, with Matt and Company in there HC can pull these out, if the defense improves.

I know we have a lot of football left this year, but I can’t wait for this game.
Going to a game at West Point has been on my bucket list especially after attending our game at Navy in 2019.
It was one of the best atmosphere’s for football I have ever witnessed.
From the mid-shipmen marching onto the field, paratrooper with the American flag and the two Navy jets fly-over after the national anthem.
I can only imagine a similar atmosphere at West Point.

Whether we’re better or worse next year will depend on Dobbs’ status as well as who returns for a 5th year. Even with a loss to Buffalo and a 10-1 season I think we'd be outside looking in for a seed this year. The clout tokens we received for winning that definitely boosted us in the rankings. Although Colgate was able to get a seed by going 10-1 with a close FBS loss to an Army team that was probably slightly better than the Buffalo team we beat this fall.

Let them come here if they want to play a good opponent in a big stadium. And Merrimack may be nearly as good as the top CAA teams in New England next year. They'd be playing for a playoff spot right now if they were eligible this year. I love the idea of promoting an all-sports HC-Merrimack rivalry. 10x better than the Turnpike Trophy garbage against a school that only cares about one sport...and that's the one sport they don't play us. At least Hockey East Merrimack has historically played us somewhat frequently. "Battle for 495", "Battle for Solomon Pond", "Commonwealth Holy War", I'm getting jacked up just thinking about it.
