Very sad to read of the sudden passing of this legendary Pittsburgh Steeler, Franco Harris. Regrettably, "unexpected death" is a phrase being seen FAR too frequently these days. SMH
For those growing up in the '60s and '70s, Franco Harris and the 'Immaculate Reception' is a name and memory that will always be remembered. The Steelers organization had planned for a full weekend of activities this coming weekend to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of that incredible play. The festivities were to include the retiring of Franco Harris' #32. I am shocked to read that the number had not previously been retired.

Here is a fabulous birds eye view of the play that defined Franco but likely somewhat overshadowed a truly spectacular career. Recommend to open your screen to as full a view as possible.
Rest in Peace, Franco. Thanks for the memories.

I loathe the word "iconic" because it's used far too much, but Franco Harris' catch truly was one of the NFL's most iconic plays.
PP, this thread belongs in the General Sports forum, no?

I thought about that, but I recall Dean Wormer posting something about the sports-specific forums not being limited to HC football, for example. The post about Bill Russell's death, and subsequent thread, was posted in men's basketball.

This should be in general sporta thread because it doesn't fall under the "college football" topic umbrella.
