Fun fact. 94-year-old Harrison Ruffin Tyler of Richmond, Virginia is the grandson of John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States.
John Tyler was born in 1790.

I knew President Tyler had kids very late in life and one of his kids also did. I did not know that one of the grandkids was still alive

Do you like Calvin Coolidge stories as much as I do? I think everyone knows the “two words” story so I’ll offer another. One Sunday Silent Cal goes to church. He returns home and his wife asks “what did the minister talk about?”. Coolidge answers “sin”. Then the wife asks “well what did he say about it?” Coolidge responds “he was against it”.

Reminds me of a story of the less than loquacious #1 expansion pick of the Mets, Choo Choo Coleman. He was being interviewed, I believe by Ralph Kiner, and the interviewer was having a hard time engaging him on any topic. Hoping to move to something easier he asked "What's your wife's name and what's she like?" His answer: "Her name's Mrs. Coleman and she likes me"

I thought Hobie Landreth was the #1 pick of the Mets. Good story in any case

I thought Hobie Landreth was the #1 pick of the Mets. Good story in any case You are 100% correct...I knew first pick was a catcher, because, as Casey said, "without a catcher you have alot of passed balls" (another great baseball quote justifying taking Landreth first) and knew Coleman was an original Met and erroneously combined those two facts.

Another catcher linked to a Casey quote was Greg Goossen: "“But now, we’ve got more guys who can play 10 years in the big leagues. Kranepool will be a 12-year man when he’s 30. And Goossen is only 20, and in 10 years has a chance to be 30.”

Tim was catching him and called time to walk out to the mound to discuss strategy Gibson waved him off and yelled at him "Turn your ass around, the only thing that you know about pitching is that you can't hit it"

McCarver was a pretty good hitter. Reminds me of the quote about one of my heroes, Mioe Berg, of whom it was said that "He can speak 13 languages but can't hit in any of them".

If we are talking catcher quotes, one of my favorites is from Yogi Berra (who has lots of quotable quotes).
As I recall it (and I hope accurately), this is a Yogi quote following the first game of the 1963 World Series, which the Dodgers won behind the pitching of Sandy Koufax. In the regular season of 1963, Koufax had a record of 23-5. Yogi said: "I can see how he won 23 games. What I don't understand is how he lost 5."

I didn't know I had such a repertoire of baseball quotes, but that segues to another of my favorites...Koufax was so dominant his starts were known as "days off" for his bullpen, which would lead to some late nights for the relievers on the eve of a Koufax start. One game he was laboring a bit, manager came out to check on him and Koufax said "You might as well leave me in, I'm in better shape than any of the guys in the pen"
