To be announced tomorrow, I think. GG should be 1st team All-PL, Batchelder All-Rookie team. Dorsey All-Defensive?

That would be a lot of awards for a 9th place team.

WG, I would agree with all three of your choices, but I have learned the PL has ideas of its own. At least I don't think any of these awards will go to DeMorat.

That would be a lot of awards for a 9th place team. Ya, but. . . Kind of hard to leave Gates off the 1st team, given the amount of stats he leads the league in. I also think it's tough to leave Batch off the all rookie team. Even if you concede the rookie of the year to Smith, are there four other freshmen out there you can reasonably say belong on the all rookie team in front of Batch? Dorsey is a tougher call. I know there are metrics for defensive efficiency, but there is more of an eye ball test there - and most of these guys my eyeballs have only seen once or twice. Easier to leave Dorsey off if you're concerned about having 3 guys from a #9 team. If 3 guys from a #9 team do make it, either the whole is not greater than the sum of the parts or we're not consistently getting enough out of 4 thru 12 (or 8)

I wonder how often a player who led the conference in scoring and rebounding didn't make 1st team?
My guess would be zero.

But I'm not we get anything beyond that. And your last point is right... if we have a first-team all PL, a first-team all-Rook, an All-Defense member as well... why are we finishing 9th? Oh right, the coach is about to be fired. Carry on

Gates 2nd team. What a joke. Don’t give out individual awards if it’s mostly based on team performance. Yes 9th is bad but we were one game away from 5th. Would Gates have been 1st team then? Pathetic.

GG's exclusion from the 1st team is indefensible. 1st in scoring, 1st in rebounds, 3rd in blocks, 6th in steals, 8th in assists. What are they thinking?

Richardson, Rucker, Higgins.....all very good players......but I wonder how well they would have fared if they had to play without anyone taller than 6-5.

As voted by the league's coaches - well, I guess that confirms what we've suspected all along: there are some pretty crappy coaches in this league.

Gates is a man. Gates is a warrior. Gates is a Crusader.
That said, a wise basketball observer once said: "Beware the big stats on a bad team." Somebody has to score. Until HC gets out of the cellar, there will be no respect put on our names. My 1st Team All PL list grows one year older without a Purple name on it.

Gates was also second in the league in minutes. For 35 minutes a game, he hauled this team up and down the court on his back. Every other coach in the league knew this and prepared defensively to make it as tough on him as possible for every one of those minutes, knowing he could never get a blow.
Records averaged 23 minutes, Deaver 27. It's nice to have a bench. It would also be nice to know which of these opposing coaches chose to extend their middle fingers to him with their votes - and a shame that we are so bad that we can't count on punching their lights out on the scoreboard next time we meet up.

Question: Why does the First Team have three guards and two forwards? Maybe the best five players in the league are forwards. Or maybe the best five are guards. If there's no longer such a thing as a Center, I think the First Team (as well as those subsequent) should be comprised of three players in the frontcourt (forwards) and two in the backcourt (guards). Seems pretty simple, and illustrative of what most coaches typically put on the floor, right?

Let me play devil's advocate. Gates played more minutes, so he should accumulate more stats. Compiling numbers because his coach can't recruit or keep a bench shouldn't mean that Gates should benefit from a recognition standpoint. You might say the team has to rely on Gates more as a result? Fair... but the team is not actually doing well, so what do those contributions achieve from an W/L perspective?
Dudz was 1st team All-PL when HC was in 3rd place. Now HC is in 9/10th place, and sporting the lowest winning percentage in the conference. You can think Gates deserves it. I can think Gates deserves it. Much like many of you say the PL is holding HC back, this year, HC held Gates back. I guarantee every coach who votes would say, there's no chance that a team with a .323 winning percentage has one of the best five players in the league.

The announcers said on Saturday that leading the PL in points and rebounds in the same season has been done only 6 times. 2 were by Adonal Foyle. At least one was by Muscala. I do not know if they named the others.

Gates compiled his numbers despite being double teamed very frequently, a strategy formed by some of the same coaches who did not vote for him.

Let me play devil's advocate. Gates played more minutes, so he should accumulate more stats. Interesting and good point. What do the numbers look like for those who made first team on a per 40 minute basis? Not done on a per-40 basis, but you can do that math on a projection. I just did it per the minutes played and their pace of achievement. Stats from the PL site:
mins points rebounds assists points/min reb/min ass/min records 716 388 189 Not Avail 0.541899441 0.26396648 Not Avail deaver 828 404 205 84 0.487922705 0.247584541 0.101449275 rucker 987 490 Not Avail 108 0.496453901 Not Avail 0.109422492 gates 1044 488 257 87 0.46743295 0.246168582 0.083333333
Gates trails them all for provided rates.
