Holy Cross will have a doubleheader Saturday (Game 1 vs. Dartmouth, Game 2 vs. Wagner), followed by single games vs. Penn State on both Sunday and Monday. All games will be played at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, NC and can be streamed on the USAbaseball.tv website for free.
Dartmouth and Wagner opened the weekend's games today, with Wagner winning 19-13.
Dartmouth has only played three other games to this point, all of which were part of a weekend sweep at the hands of a top-25 Miami team. Wagner has played seven games including today's matchup: aside from today's win, they were swept in three games by NC State and then had a three-game sweep of their own against Radford this past weekend. Penn St. (6 games played) has also faced Miami, dropping 2 out of 3 to them opening weekend. They played last weekend in Cary, where they faced Northern Illinois and Monmouth, going a combined 3-0 against those teams.
It seems like the USA complex is Penn State's home base for much of their OOC play. It's a nice surface, kept to MLB standards; they'll play another four games there against Brown later in March.
This will be an interesting weekend for the HC club. Dartmouth should always be a team that we seek to beat every time we face them. Wagner might be a step up from Dartmouth, but likely not by much. Penn State will be the real test, and I think we can benefit from seeing them on the tail end of the weekend if our pitching staff takes a major step forward this weekend.
As always, I'm headed into the weekend with optimism...hopefully it's vindicated this time.

True, they have been. Last season was their best in 10 years and they finished just 6th in the Big 10. You might expect any Power 5 team to eat every northeast mid-majors' lunch, but even last year they had losses to Monmouth, LIU, Maine, UMass, and Bucknell.

And they literally have no excuse to be bad...they have one of the top College Baseball facilities in the country.

17-4 Final - I think there is an understanding that with multiple games on a single day they can call a one-sided game after 7 innings - that's what happened here

knotted at 12 after 8 innings - pitching at this level of D.1 baseball is not the best but we have a chance to get 2 W's today

Team really hit the ball today. We did run into a triple play vs Wagner which was shocking. A lot of injuries across the team. Penn state played very well against UMiami to open the season, they are a mature team, should be an interesting match up.

Any specifics on injuries you can offer, tgunn? No specifics, but my observations: Mudd hasn’t played since leaving mid-game opening weekend, Remly didn’t pitch last weekend, saw a photo of Cam Bryant with cast on his hand, Toomey didn’t play today, no DiLauro, Chudy, Remly or Fox yet this weekend

Spot on with the injuries, kids hurt across the board, pitchers, outfielders and infielders. But the are battling. I think they could a a more consistent hitting team this year 1-9. Still need to clean up the defense and make the routine plays all the time and stop running into outs on the base paths. Have to really question the coaches for not hitting Benton last year, big strong young man.
