Amazing how many people here are willing to sit in judgment of 18-22 year olds and their life decisions without knowing a single thing about them other than that they are . . . gasp . . . walking away from a potential degree from a “prestigious” institution and getting one from an as yet unknown other school. Believe it or not, there are many very happy and wildly successful people out there with degrees from schools many here would look down their noses at.

And we all know happy and successful people without any degree.

Here’s his quote from the Yale hoops website. Why Yale? – “Because it truly is the best mix of basketball and education in the world. I had the opportunity to receive an extremely prestigious degree while also playing on a winning team at the highest level of college basketball. Also, the relationship I built with Coach Jones and the coaching staff was real, authentic, and they stuck with me since the first days of my recruiting process.” Giving up the “best mix” for a few NIL bucks. This is all ridiculous. Another example of ridiculous. The starting 5 of NC State, now in the Elite 8, are all transfers. You think any NC State fan cares right now? No way.

Root for the laundry. Realistically, by this point in a winning 35-40 game season the players are family whether they transferred in or have been there for five years. Get us to the elite eight and you are adopted with full inheritance rights.

You don't blame the school and players for playing by the rules do you? It's the darn Constitution that is to blame for giving college students rights I think.

Perhaps some believe that They put together an interesting group that built a chemistry and culture- very little to do with dollars but strategic work of recruiting by the staff

Dollars yes, substantial dollars across the board are the future
Not from groups like 1843 but from community, regional, and national business investments not directly attached to anything but their commercial interests

"Very little to do with dollars" but "Dollars, yes, substantial dollars..." Which one?

"Very little to do with dollars" but "Dollars, yes, substantial dollars..." Which one? The chemistry and cohesion have very little to do with dollars. But I'm sure the coach who built that chemistry is well paid.

Dollars yes, substantial dollars across the board are the future Not from groups like 1843 but from community, regional, and national business investments not directly attached to anything but their commercial interests Caitlin Clark from Iowa is making big NIL money - but from the likes of Nike and Gatorade. As much as I don't like NIL this is what it's for. If an athlete gets a side job hawking a product that is a lot different than the school handing a kid a wheel barrow of cash to come to that school

Some schools/teams have been doing that for decades. It was for a long time an open joke. Cars, homes (for family), or simply wheelbarrows of money have been there all along with some programs. Now all of that seems to be legal. Not great, but I am not sure what else teams can do that want to be competitive. Perhaps splitting college hoops into "professional" and "amateur" sections might be the way to go, but that can also be a slippery slope.

Tax the income and don't worry about it. The kids own their name, image and likeness, not their college. If those elements have value, it belongs to the student.

Will that include the "unionized" basketball players at Dartmouth?

Apparently the players are not buying into Matt McKillop's (son of legendary Bob McK) coaching style. There are 6 players in the Portal including 3 freshmen/sophomores.

Will that include the "unionized" basketball players at Dartmouth? They may be able to deduct their union dues. That's why they are in the Ivy League, they're smahht.
