Well, there are some who have said that the PL was the worst in the country (for some time now). A drop of several places could make their exaggerated posts correct. Conventional generalizations must drive literalists bananas. (Not literally bananas, of course.) Beyond that, it is an immediate double whammy when new coaches arrive and good players depart in a weak conference. (I don't mean the coaches are literally new, of course.)

I guess what's going to play out is how much the transfer portal helps with players coming in versus players going out. I tend to think it favors (unfortunately) players going out because the acceptance rate in the PL is usually lower than where a player might end up. As far as the likes of Records go, people graduate. Always did. While the portal giveth and the portal taketh it does seem HC is firmly (with exceptions, of course) on the giveth side. That is particularly bad since our conventional recruiting (with exceptions, of course) is suspect.

In the Nelson era (scholarship only) Taketh Giveth ------------------------------------ Gates Lowder Dorsey Hargis Octave Niego Tse Sandy Wilbar Pridgen Townsel Verbeek Reilly Wade Johnson Martindale Humphrey Luc Lewis Wilbar Montgomery (not quite a done deal - opportunity for new coach to re-recruit) I agree - that looks a little lopsided towards giveth

This is the exact type of move that we should be working on...

We frequently complain about HC not updating things on the website. Langford's page on the BC site does not even include a write up about his sophomore year (21-22) He would be a good get for Paulsen.

Doesn't really matter but Langford, Sr. is an assistant; Pettway is the coach and his nephew is the star.

The America East ROY is in the portal. Jonathan Beagle, a 6'9" forward from Albany by way of Hudson Falls, NY. Probably will go higher than the PL but who knows? Averaged 12 ppg and 7 rpg. Was 12th ranked player in New England in 2022 according to NERR.

Old friend Ryan Wade has entered the portal for the third time, this time as a grad transfer. He averaged three points a game last year. I don't know if there's some commendation for it, but he's played for three of the worst programs in the country. KenPom in parens 2019-20. Holy Cross, 3-29 (344). 2020-21. Holy Cross, 5-11 (304) 2021-22. C. Michigan, 7-23 (318) 2022-23. Green Bay, 3-29 (361) TOTAL 18-92 (.163)
Green Bay's head coach, Will Ryan, was fired mid-season. The head coach of the moment there is . . . Freddie Owens. What goes around comes around.

Langford declared for the NBA draft last year before withdrawing and going back to BC. I think he’s been at BC for 3 seasons so not sure it works academically for him to play two more years at a strictly undergrad school. Guessing he is not looking to move down.

Re; Brookshire, et al. Reports of HC interest that are dated prior to DP being named head coach were presumptively expressed by the former 'regime'.

On the 2024 thread, there is a tweet about getting an offer from Holy Cross and thanking Coach Paulsen. It hasn't been 48 hours since it was announced. I'm not sure how much of the "interest" can be from the new regime.

Paulsen could have been familiar with the recruit from his Fordham recruiting

The 2024 we offered plays for Middlesex Magic, coached by former Williams star Michael Crotty. Expect to see a lot of HC offers to Magic guys in the next couple of years. Batch and Nugent are also Magic guys so there was a connection before and that connection will get stronger now.

Paulsen could have been familiar with the recruit from his Fordham recruiting This particular recruit also plays for the Middlesex Magic, And rather unusual, I believe, for a coach's son to be offered by another school in the same conference. I would think DP would have spoken to the father first before offering.
