May he be successful in the NFL and may he also (perhaps) one day return to Mt St James! My thanks for all you gave to the Cross, Coach Smith.

Sad day to lose such a dynamic young coach, but I am very happy for him in his coaching journey. Good luck to him. I hope we do see him back someday (I'm on record here before...he would be my pick as the next Head Ball Coach).

While temporarily a step back for HC, this is, in the long run, great news. It shows the NFL recognizes the heights our program has reached, which is helpful in future recruiting of both players and coaches (whether they be assistants to BC, or if BC one day leaves). It also is not uncommon for NFL teams with some kind of connection to a smaller school to sometimes afford kids from that school a look they may not have gotten elsewhere...perhaps we get an extra player or two per year invited to rookie camps, etc...just another NFL contact that we can include in the writeup of our program to help land future recruits. I loved our offense and the creativity Smith has shown in the past couple of years...one game we could run for 300 yards as a team, the next we may throw for 300 yards, and the following week we could approach 300 in the run and pass game! You don't see that dominance and versatility much at the college level. I wish him nothing but luck and success...or as much luck and success as I can stomach the Giants having!

The Giants are going to be good for a while now that they finally have competent leadership. May as well embrace it.

Sounds like a frustrated Pats’ fan More a jealous Jet fan...year over year I am not that certain that the Giants have been much better than the Jets in my lifetime, the huge caveat to that being, of course, 5 super bowl runs, 4 wins. The Jets are that team that can win 10 games and not make the playoffs (their last winning season) while the Giants are that team that can win 9 games and win the SB (their last championship).

Not sure the Giants have been better except for the 4 Super Bowl championships . . .
Needed that chuckle as I slowly slip into a dark place with the realization that we may not be firing Brett Nelson.

Not sure the Giants have been better except for the 4 Super Bowl championships . . . Needed that chuckle as I slowly slip into a dark place with the realization that we may not be firing Brett Nelson. There is a subtle distinction between being great and being a champion...86/90 teams were great and champions, I am not so sure you could say 07 and 11 were great teams. What I meant, was even with 5 super bowl runs, the Giants have not sustained greatness...they just have spurts of it, and outside of those spurts, they have not been all that good. I started to tally up each team's W-L record in my lifetime to support this theory, but that exercise made me realize how old I was and I abandoned it after going through about 25 Giants seasons...but just eyeball the Giants (and jets) results since the mid 70's...alot of abysmal seasons for both the green and the blue. Giants edge the Jets in playoff appearances in that time (17 to 12) but neither number is overwhelming. I believe we both have the same number of Hall of Famers (now)-Carson/Taylor/Strahan vs. Martin/Revis/Klecko

Are you ignoring when the last Super Bowl was for the Jets ? I would much rather have the Giants history than the Jets.

Does anyone care what the 2007 Giants' regular season record was? The answer is, no they don't. If not for those Giants teams, Brady would have NINE Super Bowl rings -- mind-boggling. The Jets are year in and year out such an overall mess that I often forget that they've actually had teams good enough to make 3 AFC Championship games just in my quarter-century lifetime as a fan.

Winning 4 Super Bowls and appearing in a 5th since I was in high school has made being a Giants fan fun. It’s a 32 team league where they really try for parity so the success rate has been pretty good. I can’t complain despite some craptacular periods between the titles.

The combination of the Smith signing and the possibility of the Jets trading for Rodgers might have me hopping on the Big Blue bandwagon shortly.
Very serious.

Not to derail the topic even further, but as a Pats fan, I always watched NFC games with relative neutrality. Up until the Patriots-Giants Super Bowls, my Dad was actually a Giants and Pats fan owing in part to listening to Giants games on the radio as a kid before the Pats existed. When I was younger, the Pats were up and down (down, Parcells' Super Bowl, down under Pete Carroll, and then up for a long time), but I jumped on the Boys bandwagon. Loved Emmett Smith! So yes, I am a fan of two of the most hated franchises in pro sports. Go Pats! How 'bout them Cowboys!

Are you ignoring when the last Super Bowl was for the Jets ? I would much rather have the Giants history than the Jets. Absolutely not, and I too would much rather have the Giants history...and I recognize how facially ludicrous it is to say "but for all of their Super Bowls, the Giants aren't much better..." The gist of my point is that aside from the mid-80's, I do not feel that the Giants have had any real period of sustained excellence...their greatness in my lifetime has been contained to one season (or even one post season) bursts, and when they were not excellent, they were often pretty bad...dare I say, about as bad as the Jets. Even in the Manning era, with his 2 superbowl champtionships, they did not win a single playoff game outside of those 2 runs. I'm not looking for anybody to necessarily agree with me...just trying to partially justify my statement. Do I wish my family didn't curse me as a Jet fan? Of course...but those giants super bowl victories buy a TON of goodwill that overshadows a pretty pedestrian franchise resume in the non-superbowl years.

I want nothing to do with Rodgers from either a personality or a football perspective...although Mike Greenberg today suggested the draft capital they'd have to give up for Rodgers won't be nearly as great as what has been suggested. Even still, I don't want a 2 year solution (at best) and then back to the drawing board at QB without even (likely) having the benefit of a high draft choice to grab our next qb (granted the high draft choices haven't done much for us)

Recent events had me thinking back to this photo. GoCrossGo What's the chance Chesney knew this was happening?? Could he have known when they were at the coaches meetings las month? If so did he start looking for a new O line coach then, or are we behind the 8 ball searching for 1 of the most important coaches on HC staff. I would assume that Kennedy will try to open up the offense with the returning talent this year. Which means the Line coach is going to be a pivotal piece in keeping our QB upright. Happy for Coach Smith, but we need this position filled soon with Spring football starting...

I wouldn't worry about Coach Chesney finding replacement assistants. I have to think football guys will be ringing his phone off the hook petitioning to join his team,

Ben McAdoo could be a decent fit as Smith's replacement.
