Bad sportsmanship happens all the time and it starts early. When there are no consequences for your actions as happens often in our society of hate and division, they get worse over time. Girl in a 12-year-old basketball game last weekend in RI walked through the handshake like without saying a word or making any effort to give my players a high five. Coach didn’t say a word to her. And she was from Maine. If she don’t like losing, playing hoops in Maine is not a great choice.

We are doing a great disservice to youth by removing consequences from their lives

Callie Wright was formally with the Memphis program. I would believe she is happy she is no longer there.

Indeed….
No desire for me to go back to Tennessee. 26 years ago on a business trip to the state, I got food poisoning, and on the way home, the plane was struck by lightning.

Other than that, how was the trip?

My trip to Tennessee featured the (in)famous game w/Missouri (down 1, our best foul shooter shooting 1-1 w/5 seconds left; lane violation). The game featured many strange calls from the officiating team, very few in our favor. And the next night our dressing room got robbed.

Memphis Administration handling things responsibly by saying they are cooperating completely with the authorities in Ohio.

Other than that, how was the trip? In retrospect, it was better than Mr. Lincoln’s trip to the theatre……✅

True. The video makes that tougher but people have certainly claimed crazier things in recent years.

The Memphis player‘s been charged with assault for the vicious sucker punch to the face and the city of Bowling Green prosecutor’s office is involved. There are plenty of eyewitnesses and at least two different video angles. I’m no lawyer but perhaps we’ll see some jail time.

I hope the victim is able to play in the next round of the WNIT.

You need to work really hard to get prosecuted and go to jail in most places these days.

To mix up boxing, baseball and basketball, this punch probably didn't come out of left field. The accused will now be losing her five year bubble/cocoon of support the basketball program has provided her. Not necessarily because she is charged but because she presumably has finished her college eligibility. I hope any punishment helps her get to the bottom of what caused her behavior and get it resolved so she can be a positive adult.
A positive adult but probably not in the coaching (or reffing) track as she may have thrown those opportunities away. And that's a lot to throw away.

I know you can knock down someone by sucker punching them in the face in the streets of NYC nowadays, get arrested, and do it again a day later. I’m hoping the city of Bowling Green doesn’t have the ‘justice’ system of the big cities.
