I’d add that he’s smart too! Went to Williams, so he’s not just a dumb jock! [br Bachelors and Masters in history. Maybe Professor was his fallback position. and Phi Beta Kappa to boot

Never thought hustling and diving for loss balls has been our decisive issue the last 10 years. While Paulsen talked quite a bit about that throughout the news conference, I’m sure he realizes roster quality is and has been the real issue.

Not sure if I'm getting lost in semantics, but I think the biggest issue has been the departures as a result of Attack and Serve. Coach Paulsen now inherits a totally out of balance roster.
If we can pretend for a moment, and pretend CDP took over in the summer of 2019 - would he have experienced the same turnover as the previous coach, or would he have found a way to adapt to what he had, and kept more guys? Butler and Faw probably would have left anyway, but they are only 2 of a whole bunch. I bet he could have used someone like a Connor Niego a lot more effectively, for example.

One year from today, there may only be 3 scholarship guys left on the HC roster who ever played or practiced under Coach Nelson. Kenney, Batch and Kirkwood. The rebuild will be swift and DP will have his guys. He didn’t recruit Nugent or Singleton but I suspect he is very happy to have Nugent and vice versa given the Middlesex Magic connection. Singleton seems like a good recruit as well but probably less connection to DP. He was recruited by RJ. Guessing both he and RJ will be at HC next year.

Was not able to watch the presser until today. Found myself smiling. Coach exudes joy, passion & commitment. Players are a reflection of their coaches. No doubt change is on the way. GoCroossGo

Joy to the world. Let's make next season a "Three Dog Night" beating the Terriers, Huskies (NU) and Siena with their mascot "Bernie" the St. Bernard dog. Let's not even play the Dean Bulldogs. Ever again.

I read a piece that theorized that the transfer portal is allowing some schools to move away from recruiting high school/prep school players. These schools just recruit from the transfer portal, after players have shown they can play at given levels. Takes the "projected player" out of the mix, until they have proved themselves. Schools at the Patriot League level are becoming "minor league" proving grounds for these "big league" schools. The rich get richer....

That’s clearly happening at least to some extent. Have to hope Paulsen has enough experience to find and keep the kids who can buy into the HC experience and sell the “have everything” idea as well as Chesney does. Winning a lot will make that pitch a lot easier.

Sorry for the detour.
Regarding recruiting, ideally I'd love to see the 4 year guy make a comeback.

And I would assume the logical extension of that is that players in D2 and D3 that think they were overlooked will find that there are schools in the Patriot League and similar conferences that will welcome them to D1 ball. They're not all good enough or enough spots available to go higher than that. Food chain.

FDU started three players that were at D2 St.Thomas Aquinas last year, and their top guy off the bench transferred in from State Fair CC.

High school kids are competing against college sophomores at this point. That will change a bit in 2 years once Covid extra year non sense ends. I know a men’s division 1 head coach outside patriot league that purposefully fills less than half his roster spots with prep school/high school kids. One of the reasons reclassifying is more frequent. In my experience watching college closely for over 30 years about 1/4 of kids who leave for greener pastures have better playing experience. That number drops if they go up a level. This is from a men’s hoops perspective have not followed women as closely

SoV reposted an Instagram link to this video, originally posted by RJ. You can't freeze frame Instagram Here is the YouTube, which you can freezeframe. In this instance, a very quick framing shot of the team, at 1;12. Count who is there.

Something CDP said during his press conference that I found interesting was, (I am paraphrasing), It's been my thought from watching many games over the years that teams often do more to lose games than they do to win them. From the beginning, we have to be very good going things that don't require a lot of talent. Limiting teams to one shot, taking good shots, not fouling, not turning the ball over, etc. Makes perfect sense.

Different sport but Chesney drills this point home as well — which is an excellent point to drill home.

Another question arising from the video — does the A &S slogan on the wall at the 22 second mark remain? If not does anything replace it or is better to just go with a blank wall sans slogan for now?
