NY Post article: Coach Hurley believed Big East will be stronger with Pitino at St. John's & Cooley at Georgetown. It is believed the Johnnies will have a quick turnaround. Georgetown is a more prominent program than Providence. All to the benefit of the BE. It made sense.

Upside with G-Town is much higher than with Providence. Maybe this is what Hurley had in mind.

Upside with G-Town is much higher than with Providence People keep saying this reflexively, and it might even be true. But, it's not a given. Georgetown was nothing before John Thompson and eventually reverted back to nothing (after some fits and starts) after his departure. Once famous programs of no particular current relevance dot the landscape. You guys should understand that better than most. Providence, though it might not be the power it once was, has achieved success over many decades with a variety of coaches.

Georgetown may be crippled by an 870 APR in 2021. 2022 APRs come out in the summer. A school needs a 4-year APR of 930 or higher to avoid sitting back home when it comes to any post-season.

And Providence plays in a sold out building every night compared to Georgetown being the third tenant in a NHL/NBA arena.

I am not sure if the 930 APR is a BE or NCAA requirement but I have formed the opinion that leagues should be able to make rules defining who is eligible for a league auto bid, but not be able to hold a school back from an at large bid if they are good enough to receive one. That opinion has been influenced by Merrimack's situation during their transition phase that has seemed to go on forever while they have contended for league crowns in FB and BB.

When I think of PC I think of basketball.

Regarding your thoughts…..When I think of PC….I remember Joseph Patrick Hassett mugging Leo Kane in the ECAC Tournament in 1976 in Springfield. Hassett should have been thrown out of the game. 😡🤬

And simultaneously they are unable to recruit football players who got 1350 on their SATs because of the AI bands in the PL.

Unless some really high numbers come in, Georgetown won't be practicing officially as much as some other teams. I suppose a manager or someone like that could potentially organize some unofficial drills on that 6th day

In 2021, Georgetown's multi-year (four) rate was 917. DePaul was 951. Providence 984. 'Nova was 1000 (the max).
--------------------------
In the PL, Lehigh had the lowest multi-year rate in 2021: 954. Holy Cross was next lowest at 970. All the other eight schools had APRs above 980. Colgate was 995. Bucknell was 980. The academies were 986 and 984.

Georgetown is a nationally prominent university. It sits in a major media market. It has been a major player in college basketball and spawned a huge following nationally as evidenced by the widespread donning of its athletic apparel. Success at Georgetown would provide a needed boost for the BE. Love Providence - Jimmy Hadnot, John Thompson, Vinnie Ernst, Ernie D. and a few others I conveniently forgot. But, the school does have a smaller footprint than GTown and resides in a smaller media market and has a more limited national presence. A successful program at GTown would do more for the league, create more of a national interest, increase revenue, possibly help with recruiting and strengthen the BE to a degree that is not possible with Providence.
