With many road games after this weekend this is the team’s chance to gain some respectability- because of the forecast for Sunday the schedule has changed to single game tmro night at 6, then the usual dh on Saturday- the ‘Pards are having a decent season but with decent pitching we have a chance

1-8 in L9 games.
outscored 119-70 in conference games this year.
Doesn't look like respectability is within reach.

You disapprove? How about aluminum bats? Maybe go to the thread about the top 25 places to live in the Northeast? It'll relax you and take your mind off what used to be "the national pastime." Anyone really think that's still the case? Crusader baseball has an excellent field but the national championship was already in our rearview mirror when I was on campus. At best, with a total focus, we might achieve mediocrity. [Just "stirring it up"]

And, trying to put into practice what I learned at Holy Cross that almost nothing is black & white and multiple sides to almost every story, here's a segment from the New York Times about changes in baseball.

Well, night baseball (with games going very late or even into the next day after midnight in the East) has cut down on the yoiungsters who are true fans. Ticket and food prices are going through the roof, cutting back on family attendance of more than 1 or 2 games a season, if that. Along with the very short attention span of fans (linked to Sesame. Street?), the fan who used to study game strategy and enjoyeda long game is almost extinct.

I'm not sure I ever had the attention span to complete a whole scorecard. You can get up to the minute stats on your phone now.

Down 4-0 in game 1, bottom 5, runners on 1st and 2nd base, no outs, we tried to sac bunt. I had just shown up at the games, came in on the Lafayette side, watched the bunt/pop out to the pitcher and instantly started yelling "what are you doing?". The Lafy fans got a kick out of it.
EDIT- I was wrong. I got there in the 3rd or 4th. 0-0 game, HC had a man on 2nd, no outs, and also tried a sac bunt. shockingly, it failed. Such incredibly dumb baseball. You're giving up over 8 runs a game and you're playing for a single run?

There was actually a good amount of baseball alum at the games Saturday. It was great to catch up and see a little energy in the stands. This was not based on a reach out from the head coach, who apparently doesn't have any rapport with the alum. It was also interesting to meet a number of player parents who were also frustrated with how the coaching staff manages the team and connects with families, which is is to say extremely limited. It will be interesting to see of the staff gets blown out at the end of the season.

We've seen this story before with another sport on the hill. Wonder if the results will be the same?

It would not be a shock if that happened, but I donlt see it as a certainty yet.

We've seen this story before with another sport on the hill. Wonder if the results will be the same? In defense of the Head Coach (who I don't believe is the right guy for the job), he did send out emails about the alumni event. They weren't personalized, but they were from his email account encouraging attendance. That said, it was an alumni who really tried to get this organized, and set up post-game drinks/apps at a local restaurant.
I attended the game, but never made it over to the alumni area. Looked to be 10-15 people there, which is sad. Prior to Dicenzo's departure (and Covid), there seemed to be a pretty solid alumni base growing. There would be 150-200 people at the kickoff dinner, the 75+ golfers at the annual tourney (hasn't happened since 2017 I blv), and a decent showing at the alumni game (also doesn't happen any longer). That seems to have completely disappeared. Having a winning team obviously helps, but it's quite hard to continue to support a program that seems to be headed nowhere on and off the field.
