It is truly sad to see the decline in the team. I was really proud of the turnaround circa 2008-2009 under FHCGD and knew a bunch of guys on those squads. Naturally, the NCAA Regional appearance in 2017 was a highlight. Some good memories at Fitton including a frigid W vs BC (2011, iirc) with some snow squalls. I think in 2009 we had 50 something degree weather and refreshments under the 1B bleachers.

To put those rankings in perspective - there are 305 D.1 teams in the country - PL leader Army is ranked 87th

Brett Nelson was shown the door for similar RPIs. Will Kit do anything about baseball ? Will baseball alumni unite ?

Baseball and men’s lax have been bad (with an exception or an upset win now and again) for the last 25 years.
Men’s basketball woes - as of the last decade or so - hurt more as I suspect there is an appetite ( and investment) for a winning program within our admin (AD and otherwise).

I wouldn’t lump baseball and lax together. Baseball was pretty solid — for northeast mid-major standards, at least — for about a ten year stretch.

Baseball we’ve been vicinity .500 several times in the last 25 years. With the caveat that PL is stronger at lax than baseball, we do have one (1) Patriot League baseball tournament championship (2013) and zero (0) in lax. Not sure next year we’ll be any better in either sport.

Of course, the major difference is that Nelson was not at a scholarship disadvantage for men’s hoops and HCEK is. Yet former head baseball coach Greg DiCenzo did much better with the same scholarship disadvantage and is now assisting a Guardians farm club. Time for a change in coaches and time for funding several scholarships for baseball.
