In thinking about the person who did not deserve his fate of the last three years, Gerrale came to mind first.
As opposed to many teammates, he did not transfer. He withstood less than competent coaching to put on the uniform and perform with consistent effort each game, knowing that the result would not be rewarding. I cannot think of any Crusader basketballer in the last 60 years who performed so consistently well while reaping fewer victories. There is probably not even a close second. My deep admiration goes out to Gerrale with sincere wishes for any future endeavor. His last three years will definitely make him a stronger person.

Well put, hoops. I wish him only the best as his journey continues through life.

Welcome to our soon-to-be fellow alum Gerrale Gates, class of '23. His talent, strength and above all great perseverance shone bright at HC. No doubt many look forward to meeting this fine young Crusader at our alum events.

John may be lower in terms of 3 year winning (?) %, 27% (0 D3s)to G’s 30% (4D3s) if John’s freshman year is not counted, since he played little. But although I did not see many of John’s games, it seems that he did not have to bear the weight of every defense keyed on him, every HC defensive possession needing him alone to stop the opponent’s inside game, and every opponent miss needing him to rebound it, as was expected of Gerrale.

Out of curiosity I Googled GG (for whom I will always have the highest regard). He's playing professionally for a team in Switzerland, averaging 26 minutes, 11 points and 5.6 rebounds a game. I hope he's making good money and enjoying himself.

Both players had their coach fired at the end of their senior years.
Although sometimes an effective player, Hightower's futility shooting, especially from the foul line, was difficult to watch.
