This is great! It seems to me that Holy Cross is en fuego in every sphere since Vince Rougeau took the helm.

Fabulous idea. Anything that leverages HC's reputation as one of the best-in-class liberal arts institutions and create additional opportunities for students in other disciplines at different but similarly-minded colleges and universities is a good thing.

It reads like this program will have kids spending four years at HC and 1 year at WPI. A non-medical redshirt in this program would not be enrolled at HC for that 5th year. Although, I suppose an athlete could play for WPI that year with the eligibility

Makes having non-medical redshirts a very real possibility. For math, comp science, and physics majors To the general population, taking advantage of this would be the same as the young lady that's transferring to West Point (a few posters have claimed the transfer is for purely basketball reasons and she could jump in the portal after a year or two).

Dual degree with major in Lib Arts or dual major? "These programs will provide opportunities for Holy Cross students to complete their Bachelor of Arts degree at Holy Cross and their Master of Science (M.S.) or Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree at WPI in an accelerated 4+1 model."

Dual degree with major in Lib Arts or dual major? My clear impression when Vince spoke about this at the HCAA Board meeting was this had nothing to do with athletics (other than an ancillary benefit for an athlete who wanted to go on to get a grad degree not available at HC directly) but not some extra eligibility to play a sport. I just don't think that played a factor in deciding this.
Not just the WPI but the Clark 5 year program too. No question in my mind, that this was another way to build the Holy Cross connection to Worcester and Worcester's other educational institutions.

The next thing you know, the Holy Cross president will have a house at WPI.

Yuck-yuck! And wasn't this also part of Becker before they went belly up and WPI bought it from Becker? Very community-minded IMO.

No. The HC president's house is at the corner of Regent and Drury just over Park Ave from the WPI campus. It is across from the larger WPI president's house and had long been used as a residence for WPI vice presidents.
WPI did purchase some Becker buildings. I think they are using most of this new space for student housing. The Holy Cross president does not live in that neighborhood. I do seem to recall that the Clark president may have once had a residence there close to Elm Park.

Yes, Becker bought the Clark President's house and Clark renovated a Victorian house adjacent to campus. I didn't attend but witnessed a festive cocktail party spilling out onto the lawn at the current Clark President's house one time. It showed the value of having the venue on campus. The Holy Cross President's house is in a curious location.

A 4-1 program with WPI seems more appealing than a 3-2 program with Columbia. Never made sense that you’d go to HC for 3 years and then miss your senior year to head off to NYC. Guessing the 3-2 with Columbia will remain an option but maybe not.

There was one attractive mansion that I understood was the Clark President's house that was purchased by Becker and used as a day care center and early education teaching lab type facility. I occasionally walked in that general area and you would see lovely old mansions, like this building, the Worcester Club, and others and then turn the corner and be in the bowery so to speak.
A real estate person (in the 90's) said to me that if Becker and their professional maintenance of the buildings they occupied ever left, the neighborhood would go right down hill. Becker has left but my sense is the economic Renaissance in Worcester has prevented the area from going downhill.

It is pretty common that the school President's House is used for entertaining. That is why they are usually very close to campus and typically larger than needed by the family with plenty of first floor common space. My only visit to the home and grounds of the WPI President's house was for a annual senior graduation cocktail party that was held there days before commencement. My year was probably a bit awkward as the president was being forced out by the board and was in the process of packing up with his term days from its end. I think the house more frequently was used for faculty events. WPI also had the luxury of the Higgins House estate right on its campus behind Harrington Auditorium. This tudor style mansion was always in use for school events and could be rented out for weddings as well. I went to many luncheons and receptions there while a student. One of my friends also lived in it one year as a student caretaker and I got to hang out there some nights when there were no events.

Stunning buildings. "Student caretaker" can be an oxymoron if the student is not selected carefully.🙂

Holy Cross President's House at the corner of Regent Street and Drury Lane across from WPI. It has 4,588 square feet of living area with a large back yard extending to Park Ave. It is directly across Drury Lane from the WPI President's House and just a few properties down from the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity House at 10 Regent Street.
