It seems Pat Fitzgerald's offense was not being aware of the serious hazing going on in the football team. Apparently the long investigation into the situation did not uncover evidence he was aware of it. But, according to the school president, he should have been aware of it. He's been terminated. At the same time NONE of his assistants have been fired. In a certain sense they are even closer to the players than he is and apparently they too were unaware of the hazing. I wonder if the fact that none of the assistants were fired can be used by Fitzgerald and his attorney in any upcoming legal wrangling over firing (for cause) and his remaining pay (43M). As far a recruiting goes, Northwestern was ranked dead last in the BIG 10 for its Class of 2024 recruits and now has a lost 3 of those 14 verbal commits since the scandal. www.gmtoday.com/sports/will-northwestern-football-recruits-stay-or-decommit/article_57eb49ea-2253-11ee-a9a5-97352bd14d53.html#:~:text=Offensive%20linemen%20Payton%20Stewart%20and,decommitted%20and%20flipped%20to%20Wisconsin.

Just the remaining pay of Fitzy's contract is $43MM. Holy Cross: Stay out of that Swamp! Hazing or other cynical/non-productive behavior is more likely to occur where there is a weak structure in the organization (think the Russian Army). Imagine paying this much to get a combination of Mr. Magoo and Sergeant Schultz at the top of the organization.

NU enjoyed great success on the women's side (softball, lax, field hockey) this past academic year, but the men's side of the athletic department, with the notable exception of basketball, has been a disaster. Hard to believe the same AD oversees both sides of the house.

Perhaps they have an "SWA" Senior Women's Administrator who runs a tight ship and actually interacts with players to know what's going on.

Wow ! never thought I'd see two coaches from a prestigious univ fired for hazing in one week. Looks like Foster was trying some 'no-nonsense / in your face' West Point type discipline at the wrong place. I read an article that some of his asst coaches actually quit during the season (10-40 record) Foster was the head coach at URI at a time before going to BC to be their top assistant and played for the former Navy coach back at Providence College.

A player died of a heat stroke doing conditioning workouts while Foster was at URI. The parents sued the school and won a settlement. The specifics of the case didn't seem to point the finger at Foster; rather, the major issue seemed to be the lack of a defibrillator in proximity of the workout sessions.
