Francis named 21 new cardinals today, raising the number he has appointed during the ten years of his papacy to over 100. Those ages 80 and over cannot vote for his successor. With the 21 new cardinals, the number of cardinal electors may total 137, the great majority of whom (over 70 percent) were appointed by Francis.
No Americans, other than am Augustinian bishop from Chicago who holds a Vatican office, were elevated. Two Jesuits were made a cardinal, bringing the total number of Jesuits made a cardinal by Francis to six., He previously had made the bishop of San Diego a cardinal, but not the archbishop of Los Angeles (who has headed the archdiocese since 2011)

Goodness, this sounds like “politics!” Not in our Church!!! 😂
And here I thought Tobin had an inside track to ge elevated. I mean at 75, he could still vote for Francis’ successor.
