The second men’s Elite Camp of the summer is being held today at the Hart Center. From what I have read about such camps, most of the attendees get an invitation. We need a mole to copy the sign-in sheet.

Do invitees still pay the $175? I assume the Holy Cross policy of meeting 100% of demonstrated need doesn’t apply and this community outreach is not part of S.P.U.D.

It might be a recruiting violation to let some kids in for free??

That would rule out "camperships" for kids from lower income families. Maybe the benevolent NCAA allows those under a certain age. The term "elite" in youth sports is a mild turnoff to me for fuzzy reasons. I guess you have to define different skill levels somehow.

It might be a recruiting violation to let some kids in for free?? No. Financial assistance is allowed as long as there are rules - not related to the player's skill or recruitment - as to who gets aid and how much. Rules must be applied exactly the same to players who are being recruited and unskilled JV players. Also under the rules, coaches cannot give advance notice about the camp or the application date to players they are recruiting. They can speak to them at the same time the info is made available to the general public. One other item that many may not know is that coaches from other schools can be there as "observers", who can watch but can't speak to the players. No idea how often that happens.

I’ve been to many camps and the host schools usually provide player info to visiting coaches, for a fee.. Similar to AAU tournaments.

Fee, fee, everywhere a fee. (Sung to the tune of "Sign, sign, everywhere a sign.")
I know having a D-1 basketball team is expensive and revenue has to be found to offset the expenses. But a basketball player who shows skill and potential in high school but works bagging groceries to earn money when other kids are paying to play AAU and attend Elite Camps is there for the picking by college recruiters who put in more effort than just swiping their college issued credit card to attend elite camps and buy stat sheets on the players.

Figueroa is on one of the 4 17u Middlesex Magic teams. Not on the Under Armour team which is the top team. No idea how the other three teams would be ranked. He’s on the Hoop Group Summer League team.

Thanks, 92 Do you know his size ? Looks like he is a 6’2” point guard for Governor’s Academy. He played for Holyoke HS before transferring the GA and reclassifying to ‘24.

I’m no expert but I like what I saw on his video, but don’t have a feel for his play in games.

I looked back six months on his Twitter, I didn't see any offers. Hopefully August will bring us at least one competitive recruit (a big please) to get us going. Thanks everyone for the updates.

The competition and his teammates in his games’ video did not seem very strong.

newenglandrecruitingreport.com/recruits/roel-figueroa-2024Roel Figueroa (Governor's Academy, MA) is a crafty guard who has a good handle to create space for good looks at pull-ups or opportunities to drive through the defense. Very athletic and has good burst to get downhill with speed. Smooth shooter who can really knock down the three ball and in the mid-range. Has quick feet on defense to move laterally and stay on his assignment, but can also switch when needed and apply pressure.

The competition and his teammates in his games’ video did not seem very strong. I assume you are talking about Holyoke High because that wouldn’t be the case at Governor’s Academy. I believe last year was his first at GA.

I believe last year was his first at GA. Do you know if he has any offers? I didn't see any but he might be the exception that doesn't post offers. He shows himself attending a Columbia camp earlier with virtually the same message as be posted to our staff. Not to pick on this player vs anyone else but many of the football and bball "assessments" players post are from organizations that have a dog in the fight or just want to promote interest to help everyone. In football many recruits are part of training services that say their guy is going to be buried in P5 offers once,,,". There are some real camps where players are rated head to head and the assessments are more objective. Offers matter, maybe not always forecasters of future performance but indicators. Will's 2019 review (pre-HS) was interesting but if his Wichita State and JMU offers sere active as someone implied, then it means a lot IMHO. We can't push off a big man focus and I'm sure CDP is aware (painfully).

I think he would suggest that the more advanced bigs/bangers are possible but aren't easy targets for us given where we have been as a team. Also, you can never have enough talent at the point and perimeter.
