Merrimack’s reliance on DC/MD players is amazing-they make up a huge percentage of the roster. I believe that area has been the assignment of the head coach…

Any reason why the Sacred Heart playoff game is included?
I saw Stan Becton of CBS picked Merrimack to win the NEC as this is their first year to be eligible for the playoffs. For those that remember, Stan picked HC to run the table last season and go 11-0. Looks like he has us going 10-1 this year.

Sorry, they both came up on the same page when I searched Youtube for the highlights. Clicked on the wrong one. It has been corrected.

We can look ahead as much as we want as long as those connected to the program do not.

I understand why you picked the video of the 2121 game, but I'd prefer to watch the highlights of our last game vs Merrimack to open the 2022 season. Surely, you remember, our 31-17 win at their field.

I believe that area has been the assignment of the head coach… The recruiting history they have with the WCAC will eventually get them one or two of the stars in the league if they continue to improve. As I indicated earlier, I don't like this game on our schedule and prefer a national OOC schedule. For now, we have no rivalries, just memories. So, let's dream big about the future and forget about the past which included the Ivy dream and regional play. I know, I am a broken record....

If you don't like the game because it's high risk/low reward, I understand that thinking. Fortunately Merrimack has a decent shot at the FCS playoffs so they could end up helping our SOS. They are likely our opponent with the best chance of making the playoffs. You didn't think Fordham/HC last year was a rivalry game? That was a regional game that generated national (for FCS) hype so we got the benefit of a national schedule by staying in-league and in-region.

Honestly there is nothing about the PL that makes me think rivalry, only a required game on the schedule

When a PL team makes it to Frisco it's going to be a heck of a story.

When a PL team makes it to Frisco it's going to be a heck of a story. Colgate already did. Made the finals, that is. (although the game wasn't played in Frisco at that point, I'm pretty sure) Beat a Howard Schnellenberger FAU team to make it that far.

In the Fitton home side stands, last season’s Fordham game felt like a rivalry game to me. They were a playoff team also. Fordham has been our primary league competition the last few years. If there is no rivalry there for some now, perhaps it could come soon.

Lots of connections between the schools. Lots of families in the NYC to BOS corridor have alums of both.

That is a major point. Hard to think of a school as a "rival" when they are only in the same conference in one sport. Back in the day, BC as a rival in everything that had the two schools competing.

Don't even have to be in the same conference to be a rivalry. Think ND v USC in football, UConn women v ND, SC, TN.

BU is all dressed up in a white sports coat and a pink carnation ready to go to the Rivals Prom with HC. But despite being league mates forty miles apart, BU is a totally different institution than HC. BU cherry picks it's varsity sports to compete in while loading up on club sports, a totally different mission than HC's D-1 Varsity participatory model.
Why is BU in the PL? Which unfortunately for this PL fan could be turned around to ask the same question about HC by those less endeared to our league.

While our football rivalry with BC may have wrapped up over 40+ years ago there is no reason Fordham can't be a current football rival. Besides the fact our programs now both look beyond PL football championships as a measure of excellence we have a similar student body/applicant overlap, have an identical Jesuit ethos, and have similarly strong academic reputations. (I don't see us developing an all-sports rivalry with another school - really don't see that sort of thing springing up this century between schools.)

I am confident that the coaching staff will have the players focused on hosting Merrimack in the first game. We should stop looking ahead as well. Here is a bit of reading to get things started: Nice to think HC is the best game on many of our opponents schedule. Who would have thought we would be worried about taking teams lightly. Not a bad problem to have! Best team in the Northeast!

It appears HC negotiated a two home for one away game in this inaugural three game series with Merrimack. If Merrimack was scheduled for the 2020 season and that game was canceled due to Covid, then it was a standard two for two four game series.
Next year Merrimack is off the schedule and Bryant is on with the game at quaint 4400 capacity Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, RI. giving HC seven road games in 2024. What's up with that?

I say let Merrimack or Bryant "host" us at Polar so we can keep a home game at Fitton for 20k fans vs Harvard, Yale, or Fordham

One school will admit one and all The other has more rigorous standards than the rest of the PL and likely very close to the IL
