Bryant is joining the CAA for football in 2024 which brings the total membership to 16. Makes total sense given that Albany, Maine and UNH are fellow America East conference members and balances the league out at 16. Would think this would allow a two division split: North-Albany, Bryant, Maine, Monmouth, UNH, URI, Stony Brook, Villanova. South-Campbell, Delaware, Elon, Hampton, NC A&T, Towson, Richmond, William and Mary. Curious if they go to a nine game conference schedule with two games against the other division, if they intend to divide the league up this way. Also curious if they would want to protect the Delaware-Villanova rivalry if they are split up.

I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact Bryant will soon be competing in a better football conference than HC.

Why two separate threads?

I wonder if the CAA put any recent feelers out to HC regarding football-only CAA membership...or if HC put out any recent feelers to the CAA regarding football-only membership.

I wonder if being in the CAA will give Bryant a slight recruiting advantage over other New England schools. They could use a little Stadium upgrade. So much for the argument that HC would never fit in the CAA because of the CAA Southern expansion. Have to say I was shocked and disappointed to see this while we still sit in the PL.
I'm all in on the conference realignment a la FBS. Arms race now

Would that violate any rules of PLmembership? We already have PL member schools (some with football and some without football) that don’t participate in PL football. (And, we have one non-PL school that plays PL football.🤔)

(6, 2, 3, etc.) Perhaps ensuring Delaware-Nova is a consistent cross-over.

I doubt that HC put out any feelers to the CAA. The great majority of CAA schools are public universities, often with large enrollments. Quite possibly, a CAA of 16 football schools might allow only two OOC games a year.

Why didn't Fordham take the spot- or maybe they tried to? Not like Fordham's got their other sports to worry about if they left the PL.

I don't think HC is looking to move out of PL but would like to complete FCS post Covid upgrade with nonmed red shirts.

Don't know if the CAA goes with divisions or regional scheduling moving forward, but road trips to Albany, Villanova, Delaware and UNH will be more attractive than Gardner-Webb, Lindenwood and Eastern Illinois.
This is a move that makes a lot of sense.

If Holy Cross were to join the CAA, it would be for all sports. Kinda shocked the CAA brought in a football affiliate...I guess pressure from the New England schools. 16 team FCS conference is a little silly. I'm guessing the CAA is looking to entice them to join in all sports. Time for America East Football to happen tbh.

This is a move that makes a lot of sense. An absurd 16 football members now. 4 PODS of 4? Maine, UNH, Bryant, URI Albany, SBU, Monmouth, Villanova Delaware, Towson, W&M, Richmond NCAT, Hampton, Elon, Campbell

My guess is that the CAA wanted someone they could groom to become a full-time member. Fordham doesn't check that box. Maybe HC would but perhaps its been made clear we're happy where we're at.

Arms race now Bryant spends a ton on athletic facilities and that stadium can easily be expanded into a horseshoe type setup with the weight room on the end. They just built a field hockey field for this fall www.bryantbulldogs.com/sports/fh/2023-24/releases/20230809i06y99

America East and Stony Brook isn't a great relationship since SB JUST QUIT America East and was banned from the postseason tournaments.
