Really? Hardly anyone cares about Ivy football. Absolutely no one cares about Cornell football.

Nobody is suggesting it is unexpected-- this was a very talented class, and it could have helped us build on the accomplishments of the past six years. We will take a step back for a year, two or three, which might be acceptable to some and expected by all, but it will hurt our ability to compete.
But then again, I have high expectations, which is my problem for being optimistic and, of course, my unwillingness to accept an outcome for football that is less than athletic excellence. I will take an early Lenten break this year so I don't ruin the holidays for my family.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

We will weather the storm of the decommits...or we will not...but I guarantee you that if after the 2017 season I told you we could hire a coach who would bring us 4 playoff appearances, 5 league titles, playoff wins, fbs wins, recruit and produce nfl level talent, recruit and produce elite scholar athletes, and then be lured away by a top 25 team....everybody here would have signed up for that in a heart beat. Chesney owes us nothing, we are entitled to nothing...Go Cross, and Go JMU as Chesney has made me a fan

If Sluka is the starting QB at JMU next year I may just have to go to a game!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year A little holiday cheer: Holy Cross still owns the intangibles that Coach Chesney developed. HC FB is now considered a strong, serious program and we own that reputation until we show it isn't warranted. Current recruits, players, staff and the pool of potential new head coaches include people who may not have been accessible to HC before Chesney. So Merry Christmas and hope the eggnog carton is half full at least.

Really is remarkable when you lay it out like that and think about the state of the program after the Yale game in 2017.

Who has said he owes us anything? I'm one of the more vocally upset people here and I haven't even said that.

Seriously, we hired a coach who jumped ship to coach a top 25 team...nobody ever imagined us having that caliber of coach, or him being able to be recognized as that good on HC's stage

Really? Hardly anyone cares about Ivy football. Absolutely no one cares about Cornell football. This is the coaching carousel thread right? This is the guy that left Ithaca to become the OC with Penn before getting the Cornell job.

Who has said he owes us anything? I'm one of the more vocally upset people here and I haven't even said that. I've seen anger in some of the posts, which suggests a belief that HC was entitled to something that it wasn't. Its fine to be upset, I am upset too...but I've expected this day to come for quite some time, and if you didn't, you had your head buried in the sand (I don't mean you personally Drjack, but "you" to anybody reading)

I wish him the best....but I really wonder how well Ray-Bans will do at the next level....he's not coaching the Pete Oliver's, the Jacob Dobb's or Jalen Coker's of the world anymore....different world at that level. It will be interesting to follow.
He had to make the move if he aspires to higher level coaching.....but I'm not sure he will have the success he did at HC.

It isn't about Chesney guys, it is the potential impact the decision has on the program for the next few years Recruiting is the future of the program. This year we lose over 30 players from the roster and I am not sure where the quality replacements come from during a first and second signing period givenlikely decommits and admissions view of the portal.
Great six years but I am concerned about the next four years

This was inevitably going to happen given Chesney's success here....see Carter (NC State), Duffner (Maryland)....hell, even Dr Anderson (Iowa)....we'll survive...let's just get the best head guy we can asap and keep our momentum moving forward.
Holy Cross is one of the best coaching jobs at the FCS-level for a variety of reasons.....let's do our due diligence and get a new head coach who shares that vision.

It will be an Advent break I think If I come back after Christmas that is correct, but post Lent has the better feel Since this is sports, a "30 second timeout" equivalent should be considered. We're in the midst of a stressful but exciting time and benefit from all hands on deck.

If there is a negative impact to the program because of him leaving, I am Ok with that as long as the negative isn't more negative than his positive has been. I don't think it will be...I think the program next year, without Ches, will be much better than the program in the first year post-Ches

Amen.......But, we can not accept taking a step back due to decommitted recruits, we must maintain this level, and advance to the next......BC has brought us back to Duffner-esque levels of excellence that we never thought we'd see again... our challenge is to maintain this level of excellence, exceed it, and be a player on the national stage ( a la NDS, SDS and Nova ) every, single year......Lets find the next BC to advance to that next level

Agreed, but we were talking more about recruits de-committing which always could have happened...while we had a wave of players hitting the portal earlier, you can't say that was all in anticipation of a coaching change. Some of those players couldn't return, and some had good reasons to leave regardless of who the coach was (i.e. finished 4 years, can get a bag elsewhere, etc)

Seem like a good hire and good fit for AP.
Think Jeff Monken wants to leave the world of competing with NIL and recruiting at an Academy? Just kidding...mostly.

This strikes me as a Chris Smith style speech. Can this be a pre-requisite for whoever are new coach is. Don't need the persona of the Navy coach who has the personality of a block of wood. Seems like a great guy but not a hallmark motivator like Monken.
