Great news for Holy Cross football ! Jacob will have many opportunities in the new offensive scheme from the tight end position. Stay healthy and have a great year....

Can't blame a player for exploring, but his teammates don't need to welcome him back with open arms. Loyalty and commitment to each other is important. What do you mean? Deleted my post if you would delete and I will pm

What I find interesting, is that these kids like Shorter and Petersen (and no judgement) go to the transfer portal and realize "You know what? I have it pretty good here compared to Schools X, Y or Z. What school is going to match what I already have here for academics/opportunities, football opportunities etc. that Holy Cross already has?"
Again, I think this is one of the advantages we have vis a vis other schools in this NIL/transfer portal era.

Did Coach Curran’s Merrimack teams throw often to the tight ends? I’ll look that up when I get back to my lap top. If so, maybe that helped encourage Jacob to return to the fold.
U[date: Checked Merrimack roster and stats for 2023. 3 players were listed at H-Back/Tight Ed. None caught a pass in 2023

The thing is, and I don't really know, how much NIL $$$ is really out there for kids playing at our level or schools they may transfer to?
Does it really approach the amount of $$$ a Holy Cross grad can/could earn with a HC degree over a lifetime? I highly doubt it.

None caught a pass in 2023 2023 was an anomaly re. the Curran offensive scheme and a lack of production for TEs/H-backs. Look at 2021 and 2022. They had 2 studs (Tyler Roberts and Pat Conroy). Roberts signed an UDFA contract with the Chiefs and Conroy just committed to play his grad transfer year at ODU. Would likely have gone P4 if he wasn’t coming off a torn ACL. Petersen will have ample opportunities to up his production next year esp with Joe P at the helm. So would Phoenix Dickson if he chooses to return for his 5th year. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be surprised to see to be freshman Mark Schoonmaker get some looks fairly early. Athletic kid with great hands and obviously good genes.

Perhaps many across the country think there is NIL money out there for them Not sure if driven by players or family and friends I’m pretty sure Chesney said Sluka will have many opportunities to earn significant NIL dollars. Will that actually come to fruition?? So, yes, I think people feel there is more money out there for everyone than there actually is at this point.

The NIL money for Sydney Smith and Olivia Dunne has nothing to do with their athletic ability and everything to do with their looks. I've heard some people, mostly women, lament this, but it's not surprising.

I've heard some people, mostly women, lament this, but it's not surprising. You sir, are correct. In case anybody was absolutely perplexed as to why so many top female NIL earners are college gymnasts. (I am not being sarcastic as I actually think this has not occurred to some.) A college sport which has approximately zero followers here in the US. As far as football goes, quite a few portal guys are learning that NIL money (faux or otherwise) tends to go to the best players at the football schools and lesser athletes at lesser schools may see very very little.

He didn't specify, though I'm be gobsmacked if he got a full ride to a P2 program as a long snapper.
